i have the canon xha1 and the ikan 8" hd monitor

but neither came with an appropriate cable for connecting them

i just wanted to check and make sure that nothing was forgotten from the package

and also if anyone can suggest the appropriate cable

i have been in stores with the cable and monitor looking for the adapter and had no luck - future shop, the source, london drugs AV department, etc...

might anyone be able to post a link with this unit to help get my bearings? i haven't even got to test the monitor yet!

What you need to do is get the BNC adapters that Chenopup mentioned (Blue Jeans cable also sells them) and connect the component cable that came w/ your XH-A1 to those connectors and everything should work fine.

ok, thanks guys, i'll try to grab them today

any advice on which cable goes into which port on the monitor (if there is any risk to the monitor if I plug them in wrong)...

the cable that came with your camera came with "RCA" connection common on consumer and prosumer equipment. the Ikan monitor has "BNC" connections common on professional and prosumer equipment. you will need adapter that attach to the monitor and will allow you to connect your RCA conectors ... Ikan sells a set of 6 on their website ....

the green cable from your camera will plug into the "Y" or luminance input connection on the monitor
the blue cable from your camera will plug into the "Y-b" or Pb input connection on the monitor
the red cable from your camera will plug into the "Y-r" or Pr input connection on the monitor

there is no harm done if connection the cable wrong. you will either get no picture if the "Y" or luminance cable is not connected correctly or if the red and blue cable are incorrect you will have inverted colors
