XDCAM EX Firmware Upgrade March 2010 USA

OK, so its 1.05, which is a pretty old version, most are at at least 1.11 b4 upgrading... but I'll have to update the vimeo video with that warning

I upgraded the EX1 last night. My camera shipped with V1.05, but I had upgraded previously (myself) to V1.11. The earlier upgrade is probably still floating around here if you do a search, or I can email it if someone needs it.

As for the upgrade to V1.20, it went very smoothly for me on the PC. Basically, you download and install the Microsoft NET Framework 3.5. You also have to have the EX1 connected to the external power supply/charger.

Then you start the VersionUp software on the PC, agree to the license, begin the installation, then connect the USB cable between the service port and the PC when requested. The EX1 driver will self install. It's important that this step be in the proper sequence. If you connect the cable and the driver self installs before you get to the appropriate step in the VersionUp installation process, you will have to abort, go into Device Manager and uninstall (but not delete) the driver. No biggie.

The installation is two steps, not totally unlike the version upgrade from 1.05 to 1.11 was. When the first step is completed at 50%, you are requested to turn off the power switch on the EX1, and then back on to reboot. The power supply cord and USB cable remains connected. (The switch goes to the "camera" position.) Then the upgrade process resumes. There are two progress bars to keep you informed. When you are finished, disconnect everything, and turn the EX1 on.

It is important to note, that while the USB cable is connected between the EX1 service port and the PC, the LCD on the EX1 will remain dark even when switched on to the camera position. It remains dark for the duration of the upgrade process.

Does anyone have v1.05 and v1.11 firmware updates if so is there a link or could you email them. My EX1 is at V1.03 and I need to upgrade it to 1.25
I heard that if you upgrade your camera straight from 1.03 to 1.25 it will most certainly turn it into a brick.

Please let me know

You didn't say windows or mac, but here's a suggestion. Often when stuff is dropped from the support menu the file is still on the server. Go to Google cashe items, especially for non-US servers.

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:SArNe6-S1qYJ:support.sonybiz.ca/+VersionUpTool_PMW-EX3_1.10%28Win%29.zip&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

This shows things no longer on the Sony list of down-loadable files. I assume what you're trying to get is the advanced SxS adapter support. Its there. Just a quick scan I did see v1.1.0 for win and mac.

If all else fails Sony will do it but now charges a fee, though if you send it in for some minor repair some people have reported it coming back with the firmware upgrade.

exact zip that was leaked from sony a while back

1.10 update, 1.11 update, and thorough instructions.

FOLLOW THEM MEGACAREFULLY

also, make sure you have the usb cord plugged into the hidden service port, not the normal usb port.

after doing both those updates in the absolute correct order very carefully you'll be able to do the same with the 1.25 update here:

The file's usually on my webserver but it's down right now, sorry about that

They're all on my webserver, there's a couple links to them around here somewhere. Sadly servers been down all week due to some upgrades and revisionzzzz

Yes,
I went from 1.11 to 1.25 without an issue.

There's no install program for 1.25 uploader- just execute the uploader, then plug in the USB cable into the port hidden by a cover (held by a screw), not the "normal" USB connection used for video transfer.

With the uploader running, once you plug in the USB cable it will ask for you to accept the USB driver, select OK and follow prompts until the end.

Halfway through, it will ask you to shut off the EX1 for 30 seconds then turn it back on to continue until finished.

Remember, you perform these upgrades at your OWN risk.
