In case you are not following Peter Crithary's tweets, he's just posted that XDCAM Browser 2.0 is required for proper viewing of F3 clips shot with firmware 1.2 and 1.31

I did not realize this, but it makes an incredible difference in the video quality, thanks. I was used to the Samurai videos, but when I had to review an SxS recorded series, the old XDCAM transfer made it look terrible when transcoded to FCP X in Lion. Along with upgrading to the new XDCAM browser to 2.0, I also upgraded to 2.13 on the transfer from 1.2. I highly recommend doing both.

I'm not sure I understand this... I thought XDCAM Transfer was just re-wrapping the files into MOV? Is there a conversion I'm not aware of? Is there a quality loss if using my XDCam Transfer over the new viewer?

Please elaborate theres not a lot of information given here.

The XDCAM file format has changed from firmware update 1.2 and greater. The old clip browser doesn't know how to read the files properly so it doesn't write new files properly. You need new Browser v2.0 or better.

The files are changed fast enough that I doubt there is any transcoding. It seems to be just rewrapping in a different file structure. So unless you pick the wrong browser to use with the wrong firmware, no there is no quality loss from the file type conversion.
