FS7: XDCA-FS7 owners: Are you happy?

I use the FS7 with the metabones smart adapter and the Sigma 18-35 1.8 ef lens regularly and do not have any issues at all. Aperture adjustments are the same as they are with my Canon glass.

which version of the adapter are you using? a weblink if you can please thank you

FS7 owners, I have a big investment with canon glass, has this created big issues in the heat of the shooting for some? I've read about the issues with using adapters and this is I think the biggest thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger on a fs7, the specs you cannot beat for the money period, but lens issues with paying clients is a no no for me, can anyone chime in on this please thank you guys

ive had 4 Metabones - Mark 1, 2, 4 and Speed Booster and no issues at all. I also use a Fotodiox Pro Nikon to EF on all my primes and zero issues. I have a lot of adapters and the Nikon gets stacked on top of e Metabones and once again, no issues.

I opened the discussion to get more information about XDCA experience but it seems it's Metabones Canon glass topic now? Could you stay in topic and find the already existing Metabones discussion Pleeeeeaaaaase :-)

Sorry about that, back to the original subject

I highly recommend the XDCA because it makes the FS7 a complete professional camera. I hope that helps get the discussion back on track. :-)

And I don't necessarily disagree with Doug... but for me personally, (for those considering / weighing the purchase) not having the timecode in is not a big deal. For me, the better bang for the $ - was the Tilta V-lock adapter and an external monitor/recorder Pix-E5 for Pro-Res optional recording AND LUTS in all scenario's for clients.

Timecode is about all it adds that is 1. properly functioning, and 2. that other plates can't add. And even, there are people who post on Sony's boards having issues with it. But you probably have some excuse for that, like you always do when it comes to criticizing Sony.

Switronix and Tilta plates are significantly better for the price if you want V-mount. The high frame rate output from it looks like garbage. The FS700 had better 240fps RAW output from a BUILT IN SDI JACK.

The FS7 is a pretty great camera for the price but the half-baked XDCA for $2000 (1/4 the camera price) is a far cry from a "high recommendation", and I can guarantee you there are a lot of people who agree with me. Nearly everyone I know who has one has either unloaded it or is trying to.

Can't say I'm surprised to see you lacking complaints about it, though.

Thanks for the personal attack, I guess you figure somehow it bolsters your argument. Very mature.
In the future I will do my best to go out of my way to find fault with a device that I truly think is a fantastic addition to the camera . . . if that will make you happy. I didn't realize that my opinion on a piece of hardware could be taken so personally by someone else who had nothing whatsoever to do with it's development. You have no right to question my motives or imply I don't genuinely believe what I have posted. If you don't like the XDCA, don't buy it and please feel free to post your reasons you dont like it, but leave me out of your axe grinding with Sony.

I'm not implying that you don't believe it. And I know you've produced a lot of great training resources that have helped a ton of people, so I don't mean to personally attack you, you're obviously a great asset to the community. But from what I've seen on the forum, you seem to minimize bugs/problems with Sony cameras and just praise them. I don't think I'm the first to mention that, either.

Doug does not need myself nor anyone else standing up for him, but I feel the need to post "lol, wut?".

People complain it's raining and their newspaper is getting wet. Doug offer to show them how to use an umbrella. All he actually offers is common sense, laid out in simple terms. If you can't even take that for what it is, lol wut?

Completely agree. I couldn't imagine showing up on set without the XDCA, even if we didn't use it... To not have the option for timecode jam would make me feel like I brought a consumer camera. Even if it's just a one camera shoot and the sound recordist wants to jam the mixer and your camera... I like to be ready for all of it and the XDCA is an essential piece of kit. Plus, lots and lots of people really want you to deliver ProRes files, for whatever reason. Again, I like to be ready for that. I bought the fs7 because it is versatile and I don't intent to limit that versatility by not owning this piece of kit.

I fully recommend it, I wish the price was lower, but It still fits in the mold of the fs7 being approximately a 10k camera....

Now if were talking things I wish i DIDNT bundle with my fs7... how about that 28-135? That lens has not seen its fair share of use compared to my much less pricey canon zooms. Ugh.

Notice the form here:
Say good things about your opponent.
Use the BUT word to cancel everything you just said, and imply it wasn’t really sincere in the first place.
Insert your primary dig.
End with, “most others agree with me.”
Why can’t you live with, “Doug likes the XDCA unit and you don’t.” That’s what forums are for, to express personal opinions. Why start another flame war?

i think the FS7 is a truly great camera and the best feature might be the great internal 10bit CINE-I files....to me the XDCA adds price and weight that i honestly think takes away from what makes the camera great....
if i would get something now i and need a better file (raw, prores,....) i wold either go with the F5 bundle (for a more complete/"professional" package) or wait a couple of weeks and get the FS5 with the raw upgrade (for a lighter, more compact package).....

I'm in the 'too expensive for what it does' camp.
Timecode in would be nice, but not having it certainly isn't costing me any jobs. No interest in Raw or using Vmounts at the moment.

Wonder if one of the SDI ports on the camera could be turned into a timecode input?? haha Firmware? ... wishful thinking for many im sure

Doug is now my "opponent"? We are in disagreement about this, yes, but I'm not in some sort of battle. And the "but" doesn't negate anything of the positive things I said about his contributions to the community. Not everything is mutually exclusive. You can agree with someone on many things (and appreciate their presence/contributions) and still disagree with them on some others. Like you said, it's a forum for opinions. Doug likes the XDCA and I don't.

I do appreciate the support people have posted, but I'm happy to shake hands with Josh and move on. No need to say anything else on the matter.
