FS7: XDCA-FS7 Extension Unit, What other recording devices do I need to get 2k 240fps?

If someone can point me in the right direction, I am purchasing the XDCA unit and just wondering if I would need anything else in order to use it.

Thank you

240 fps is in 2K raw. The raw options available at the moment are the Sony IFR+AXS devices or the Odyssey 7Q/7Q+ with raw option.

Awesome Guys! I'll go with the 7Q, Thank you much. Wow! This camera is going to cost me about $19k

Not entirely sure where the $19k figure is coming from.

FS7 $7,999
Extension Back $1,999
Odyssey 7Q+ $2,295
Odyssey Raw $995

Total: $13,288

You'll still need lenses and probably some kind of cage/rail mount for it, but those things don't normally factor into the cost of a camera since you would pay it for any camera rig.

Batteries and 2 x 512Gb drives for the 7Q doesn't come cheap, although now you can use 3rd party ones the price may well come down.

Soon you can use the Samsung 850 EVO SSDs in 500GB and 1000GB sizes, but not quite yet. In the meantime, until May 31st if you purchase an Odyssey7Q+ it will come with two 256GB Odyssey SSDs included.

As far as batteries go, I highly recommend purchasing the type that have a P-Tap built into the side and you can power the Odyssey7Q+ off that. There are many brands that offer this, I like the Switronix models for price/performance value.

Getting the kit, Extra Batteries, 4 XQD Cards, 1TB Convergent SSD for the 7Q, Spill and drop warranty, Shape Extension Handle

Gotcha. Make sure you need that much media. I've done full day shoots with just the two 256GB SSDs that come with the Odyssey (as well as an internal 128GB card for backup). That being said, I wasn't shooting 240fps on those days.

Also, be aware that recording 2k RAW at 240fps requires striping across two SSDs. So you'll need 2 1TB drives (or 2 512GB drives for a total of 1TB).

Hi Mitch
can you tell us anything more about the Samsung 850 EVOs - will these be standard or pro versions?
Any particular firmware version required?

Wow! That's gonna suck. Haha

I'm not even sure how to do this. Just been using our C300's and C100's

Ouch! For that money, you could pretty much have an F5 with the AXS-R5 if you picked the latter up used (quite a few on the market at the moment).

It will only be the standard Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" SSDs in 500GB and 1000GB sizes. Not the Pros and not in the 250GB size.

We will enable this in an upcoming firmware, but not the next one which we are soon to release. I expect the one shortly after that, but can't make any promises. If you try to use anything but an Odyssey SSD right now you will get a message stating "unsupported media" and it won't record.

We will also make the locking top handles available for purchase through our dealer network for a modest cost, probably something like $25 for a pack of five with some screws and glue. The handle is necessary to mount the SSD properly in the Odyssey.

You stick in two SSDs in the two slots and when you switch to the correct mode you wish to record it will automatically stripe the recording across the two drives. There are a few Apps available for free download from our website, and one of them stitches these files back together in seconds. It's actually quite simple.

Awesome! Let me know if you want to test it on mine ;)

Thank you Mitch for all you do for our community.

I have the extension pack, and also the Shogun. I must admit I should have gone with the odyssey now. It is more expensive, but I've had the shogun for almost 6 months and still don't have the ability to record raw on it, so basically the extension pack is a V-Mount battery adaptor for me. Maybe it was my fault, being too hasty in my purchase of the shogun and not reading the fine print... certainly a lesson learned.

c'est la vie
