XD Cam Plug-Ins for Mac and Final Cut

Help. Having some issues here. I've downloaded and installed every plug-in and driver I could find for the PMW-350, and I cannot get the firewire/i.link to work. The i.link is set to "on" in the menu options. But nothing. Log and Transfer in FCP7 don't see any sources. The computer simply doesn't even know the camera is connected.

When the Sony plug-ins and drivers are installed, are they automatically installed in their proper locations? My P2 camera was instantly recognized by my Mac without even the need for drivers. Also, the memory cards showed up as external drives when I switched the camera to computer mode. Is there a way to do this on the PMW-350?

Is there a really good, detailed guide for making the PMW-350 talk to the Mac?

Is there a way to test the firewire/i.link to see if it's working at all? (I'll send it back to the seller if it's defective.)

I'm so frustrated, I'm almost ready to go back to Panasonic.

Thanks,
Scott

The problem is that you aren't using the right connection. The Firewire/iLink connector is strictly for the input/output of HDV and DV video signals for recording or playback. If you want to use the camera as a card reader to transfer files, then you need to use the USB port. No drivers should be necessary. Also, I highly recommend using Content Browser to view the files, copy them to your hard drive, and rewrap them for FCP7.

Ah, that would make a difference for the file transfers. Thanks.

But I should be able feed live HDV and DV video from the camera through the Firewire/i.link for the Mac to stream, yes? I know the manual says only certain resolutions and frame rates are supported so maybe i still have a setting wrong. I'll dig through it all again.

On a side note, I wish someone other than engineers wrote user's manuals. :(
