XD Cam output to HD-SDI

Hey,

So I just picked up a new HD-SDI field monitor for my XD Cam 355. When I plug my SDI BNC to the SDI port into the back of monitor it doesn't work pick up the feed from camera, but when I plug into just the video input it works. So my question is does XD Cam 355 just not put out HDSDI, or is it monitor, or is the camera? The monitor and camera are both new to me, that's why I am trying to figure out if one of the two is broken, and I don't have an extra camera or monitor to test either one.

On many Sony cams its possible to disable the SDI and the HDMI ports to save power. So check your camera menu's (and manual) first. Try also different SDI output settings. Your monitor accepts a video (composite?) signal. So you have to check the input menu's of your monitor too to find any mismatch between monitor and camera. Good luck!

If the monitor input works with composite video, then that isn't the SDI input. As greenhorn says, maybe the monitor input is switchable? Since you did not identify the monitor, we can only offer vague, generic advice.

Thanks for the advice, and yes I made sure the camera is set to output HD, put it does not say HDSDI, I guessing that is as close as I can get with camera menus because it's HD or SD. Oh the Monitor is a Marshall and yes I made sure to hit the right buttons on the front. If I plug into SDI port and select that button, it does not work, but if I plug into component and select component it works. My real question is does XD 355 put out HDSDI or just a standard HD?*

Yes, the F355 outputs HD from the HDSDI port. Even when the camera is set to record SD to the disc, the camera still outputs HD all the time. I sold my F350 awhile ago, but if memory serves me right, I don't think there is any menu for turning off the HDSDI connector. It is always on. So if you're not seeing the signal, either I am wrong, the camera is broken, or your monitor is setup incorrectly. Why don't you check the manual?

Yeah I was an Idiot, I was using the HDSDI hook up in the back of the camera, I was using the video out from the side. So yeah I solved the problem, thanks for the help
