FS7: XAVC or ProRes for limited editing

I need to make window dubs from material shot on FS7 in Slog3 and XAVC-I (1080- 29.997) and I will be adding LUT's to that material.
I will probably do this in Premiere Pro ( possibly try it in Resolve instead though.) Reasons for Premiere is compatibility with the editor who will be editing in Premiere. Ultimately I will do the grading which I may do in either. ( I know there is a good argument for final grading in resolve.)

My question at this early point is whether I should transcode my XAVC-I originals into ProRes 422 before making the window dubs with limited corrections and LUT added or just leave in it XAVC-I?

Would the answer be different in Resolve?

I assume I should at least move my originals from the 5400 RPM drive they were downloaded to a 7200 RPM drive. I don't think I need a Raid or SSD for such limited work do I?

Thanks,
Lenny

In resolve you don't have to transcode to prores. And Premiere Pro should handle xavx-i too. I'd leave it.
If the editing computer has ssd's it can cache your footage and speed-up the editing. A normal external HDD is sufficient.

There is no point in doing that, both formats are all intra and should show a similar decoding and seek performance.

To make computers and workflows faster you have to find the bottlenecks in your system. An old HDD could be slowing the whole chain.
You can speed up Davinci Resolve (and perhaps premiere too) with SSD. Moving your OS and software to SSD and use another SSD as a cache disk. But most of the work is done by the videocard.

You have to look at the bitrate of those HDD's but I don't think it will make editing faster. For copieing you can use an external HDD with USB 3.1 which is much faster than usb 3
