FS5: XAVC L fuss

For those interested I shot with a friends FS5 and transcoded the XAVC L to ProRes 422 using EditReady. (I was going to go 422 HQ but thought it was overkill) This is the way to go for editing it puts less stress on computer without any quality loss, its a great workflow. The XAVC L GOP In HD is 50mbps 422 which is extremely good quality.

Its a fast transcode and with cheap hard drives these days who cares about drive space.

My iMac 3.2GHz loved it :)

I also use EditReady, I store the originals on cheap drives that are also backed up and make ProRes 422 files to the OWC RAID O, use the option to leave the files in place and make PROXY when I bring them into FCPX... really surprised how fast the HD transcode to ProRes is even on my insanely underpowered and outdated iMac at home. UHD is totally doable but the transcode is far from snappy and thats were to PROXY comes into play for editing. I expected the HD to be a little better than the AVCHD from my other sony cameras but its really a huge difference, especially the options/adjustments in post with SLOG3.
