XAVC codec on pmw 300

I'd like to know too.

Brian, how does the footage from your PMW-300 compares to your FS100? I'm really interested in the 300, but going from the F3, with a 35mm sensor to a 1/2 inch PMW-300 kind of worries me. I do need a run and gun type camera. I was hoping the PMW-300 might also make a good B camera to my F3. For me it's either the 300 or a FS700.

Jack I will have to get back to you on that in a week. I am doing some tests this week with both cameras in a side by side and taking them out so I will get back to you. I expect that I will be grading anything I do in most cases and so far the images from the 300 are awesome. I will also do an HDMI Ninja test with my Ninjas on each.
I really needed a run and gun camera and something that was broadcast compatible. My TV Station clients all use XD Cam and Quantel edit systems and that was one of the deciding factors. My good friend Bill Kerrigan also helped with the decision as he has been shooting with his EX3 for several years. I was at one point going to sell my FS100 and go for a 700 or maybe an F5 but I actually find that I can satisfy my clients who want that look with the 100 and my lenses. My work requires me to be flexible and one day is often very very different that the next. As a result when I let my HMC 150 go I had great difficulty servicing some of the producer/directors who came from the Betacam zoom lens, run and gun background. They just could not be convinced to block out a sequence or give me the time to build one. So all this to say I have great hopes for my new PMW 300K1 as it will definitely be the last camera I will buy and will hopefully get me through the next couple years until I graduate to becoming a Walmart greeter or Home Depot plumbing sales associate.

Brian, your thoughts or any comparisons between the two cameras would be very welcome, so let me know how your shoot goes, thanks. I know the codec in the PMW-300 is great, in fact I wouldn't bother with the Ninja, have you ever seen this video?

I decided I will only go to external recorders for S-log from the F3, the internal codec is fine for me for everything else. I know the 300 is the camera for me, but I'll just wait until after NAB to make sure that something better is not on the horizon, you know how Sony keep releasing stuff. Thanks.

Anyone have any info as to date? Will it be free? Will it require an adapter to use the new fast card?

Brian I read this on DVINFO

''Just to update on the XAVC question for the PMW-300. Spoke with Hugo Gaggioni Sony's Chief Technology Officer for the Broadcast and Production Systems and the official word on this is this:

"The chip can do long or intra. The 100 Mbps is only for those regions in the world that would like to code 50 or 60Hz interlace in intraframe manner. We will introduce 100 Mbps intra during the summer first and then introduce 35/50 Mbps long GoP in the fall."

In relation to weather this upgrade will be free (as with the PMW-400) i was told it is TBD (to be decided)''
