XA10 or G10 or HMC40???????????

I'm trying to decide between the Canon G10 and the Panasonic HMC40 to supplement my 7D. I don't need camera sound so I can use the G10 over the XA10. I am concerned about the lack of manual controls on the Canon (Knobs and switchers) I also like the 3mos on the Panasonic which is right in the middle pricewise, between the Xa10 and G10. I can't get my hands on any of them so I'm hoping someone here has some experience. The last concern I have is service. Canon is in Va, an hour away (No walk in service but at least I know where they are) I've always had great relations with their customer service. I've never had any dealings with Panasonic so I have no idea what they're like.

Can you post your impressions of the G10 once you've had a chance to play with it. My interest is in the low-light ability of this camera, as it is supposed to be very good in this area.

I'm going to do a proper test for you Dingo but...
I got it yesterday afternoon, charged the battery, read the book (There is a learning curve) while I was playing with the controls in my office which is dark with only one desk lamp, I looked in the LCD and saw an amazing picture.

I hooked up my 7D with the 50 1.8 and my Sony which has always had slightly better low light than the 7D, and commenced to playing (Until 3:00 AM).

This camera is flat amazing!

It is no better in low light than the 7D but it takes a long time setting everything just right with the 7D and it's a few seconds with the G10.
The Sony just plugged on and had less noise when I pushed all of them, but not much and the IQ was not nearly as good as the others.

I got up at 5:00 and took it out and it's going to take a few days to get the full use of everything. Just an example is, it has 3 image stabilizer modes. Walking shots with it in a frame are a lot easier.

The focusing aids are the best I've ever used and the waveform windows are great for maintaining exposure.

I was worried about the lack of physical controls, but the assignable wheel for instance, can be reassigned on the fly with three thumb movements.

I'll find something I don't like eventually!

My heavy duty battery just arrived so I'll let it charge for a while (I forgot to order a stand alone charger).

Wow. As good as the 7D is very impressive for a consumer camera. Look forward to a more detailed review when you have the time.

I own 3 of the Canon branded BP-827 battery packs and 2 wall-chargers for my old HG21 camera, so I plan upgrading to the G10 camera later this year.

I'll go out on a limb and say it's just barely consumer. I can find no difference between the camera end of he XA10 and the G10. Time will tell on it though and I think I made the right choice. I bought two 64 gig SDHX cards, which I'd been putting off, and am still money ahead.

I did finally find a few things I don't like. There is way too much "edit it in the camera" stuff but it doesn't hurt anything, just irks me that it's there.
The one thing that does matter some is the waveform window. It only shows up in the LCD...not in the viewfinder or the field monitor.

I say "consumer camera" because of the price ( it was on sale here in Toronto a week ago for $1350 ). Both my HG21 and HS700 can produce a nice image with good light, but they aren't great with low light, so the G10 looks like a nice upgrade for me.
