X-Men 3

Wondering why this thread isn't up yet. Am I the only one who jumped on the first showing this morning? I'm a geek, had to do it.

These are one of those films that if you set yourself up to be a kid again it's pretty hard to be dissapointed. I had a great time. I liked it better than the second one, but still not as good as the first.

Definately a different style without Singer. But it totally delivered some great action sequences and a solid storyline.

***************SPOILERS AHEAD********************************

I was pretty stoked they whacked a few X-Men.

I din't care for Pheonix being so 'on the fence' the whole time in the forrest and the first half of the S.F. final scene. Granted, I guess she was conflicted, but show me! The shot would just periodically go to her standing in stoic fashion looking hot. Then she decides to get mad all of a sudden and start a giant storm? Eh, that was a little weak for me.

I also didn't care for the large grouping of 'generic' bad guys. Did you notice most of them were minorities? That kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Anyway, they were all kinda lame. They had a few aboriginal type tattoos and that was about it. Bunch of brainless cliche's really. But I overlooked it.

I thought the best scene was the vist by both X teams to Jean's old house. The one where juggernaut is ordered to stay outside, then wolvie decides to 'go in'. That whole scene rocked, and is my favorite X-Men scene to date.

Anyway, thumbs way up. Loved it. But then again, I really liked the Hulk.

Thoughts?

Uh, again. Why?

I thought it was a very solid film. I may have liked X2 better, but I would have to think about it. One thing about X3 is that it had a lot of finality to it. If they make an X4 I hope that they wait a few extra years so as not to cheapen X3.

And for anyone who saw it, I hope you stayed through the credits. All of them.

For anyone who is going to see it. Stay through the credits.

I saw it last night as well. I thought it was a really fun film. The "I'm the Juggernaut, *****" line was amazing. I heard the rumor that that line might creep its way in to the film, but I didn't believe it.

I saw it this morning. Looked great on a Christie 2k...

And the film itself was good. I was really woried about Ratner, but he did a good job. I was thouroughly entertained, and it was definitely worth my money.

And yes. Definitely stay through the credits.

i just got back from seeing it. i liked it. it wasn't as good as the first 2 but it was enjoyable...

i liked the finality to it.

SPOILERS BE AHEAD

i liked the scene at the end of the credits. short to the point... maybe there will be a 4th film...

END SPOILERS

overall it was a good film... i would have rather had bryan singer direct it but oh well... there were some slow points in it and some of the dialogue was cheesy, but an enjoyable film overall..

I'm the Juggernaut *****!

I liked the film a lot but felt the subplots in the middle of the film kind of threw it off a bit. Overall I'd give it a 3 1/2 out of 5.

brett ratner is now on my list of directors that i will punch for making bad movies if i ever meet them. (anyone make it through after the sunset?) also on the list, stephen sommers for screwing up the great universal monster flicks, and that scorpion king garbage. i wont bother with the rest of the list here.

spoiler alert*

um...i take it that he didnt read the comic. not that i'm a comic nerd, but this is based on a series, the dark pheonix saga. hello, mcfly. shes a giant flaming bird that destroys everything in her path. a supernatural creature. now alot of this is to be blamed on the writers as well. but still, where's the flaming bird? its a PHOENIX !!! ratner is supposed to be in charge. how about a rewrite eh.

and the this is supposedly the 'last stand'. lame final fight to end a franchise on. now yes, there are the hints all over that its not, but still, comeon. weak. so weak. the movie clocked in at like an hour and a half. could have pumped in another half hour of something....anything cool.

the new mutants introduced didnt do anything. just one example: um....did someone forget to tell them that juggernaut is professor x's other arch enemy....and half brother. lord. they dont even show down. set up, pay off. screenwriting 101. multiple man....is left in the woods. and shockwave is some lanky goth kid? what? brotherhood of worthless mutants.

alcatraz. seriously. did he wish he had directed the rock?

finally. lord i hope singer leaving to do superman is worth it. if he messes that up (casting doesnt give me hopes) it will be a depressing blockbuster season.

i found it funny that Shockwave looks surprisingly like Prince :P
other than that, i loved the movie. except for those parts... like the pheonix... NOT only did he probably not read the comic, BUT the last scene in X2 is totally a giveaway that she's a flaming pheonix!!!
and yes. the last scene was a bit cheesy. with all the "pawns" who apparently have the exact same powers.
btw. did anyone think Rebecca Romijn looked extremely hot when she turned into a human?

also.. the superman trailer i saw at the theaters looked surprisingly better than what they show on tv and on apple.com

Interesting comments. Thanks for elaborating beyond "it sucked." I'm a huge comic book nerd, but for the DC side of the force. I never much cared for Marvel comics, so I didn't know all the stuff about the Phoenix flaming bird stuff. I can see where that would lessen the experience of the film for fans of the book.

Never read the comics, but I liked this one better than the first two. The scenes with Wolverene were expecially fun.

I also was happy with the fact of, and the handling of mutants' deaths. It created a sense of vulnerability and the unexpected without becoming a cheap plot filler.

Kinda funny though, that all the cars on the bridge were accosted in midafternoon, but all had their lights on in the night shot at the end.

The main problem with this movie is the story. The didn't go into any ot the characters at all. Can anybody tell me from watching any of the movies anything about Storm,Beast,Cyclops etc..

They showed the most background on Magneto , Rogue , Iceman , and wolverine out of all the movies. I think in the third one they tried to make it the wolverine show and turn him into the leader when he wasn't.

Also how the hell do you kill off xavier , Scott and Jean ? Umm without jean and scott there would be no Cable. Jean had about three lines in the his movie. They should have made the movie longer to explain more of the story.

dido

character development was a little off. I think they spent too much time on the mellow dramatic love story -- cut it short.

The other x-men or shall we call them New Mutants (remember that comic?) was a great addition, lots of diversity -- shapes, sizes and color.

On the plot, it wasn't tight as the first two parts. The scene interplay between gov't officials and the x-men fight sequence were not in sync. fine have the political sit downs with the round table discussions BUT mix it up a bit -- have the room shaking (officials running to their computers, phones or what ever) THE SENSE OF URGENCY JUST WASN'T THEIR in those gov't scenes. THis gave the story a momentum hit.
