FEATURE: Wyke Wreake - A Supernaltural Horror Film from HungerCult Films

Hi all,

As I've so oftern enjoyed coming here and reading about the experiences of other Filmmakers, I thought I'd begin a thread here to document (and encourage) the production of our new horror feature, WYKE WREAKE. The film has been in pre-production since April, which primarily consisted of script redrafts, casting, camera/light upgrades, acquiring props/locations, set design etc. We began principle on 2/11/11 and so far have shot approximately (not shooting every day) 14 pages of script. We tend to build up a roughish edit as we shoot so that we're able to build up a pick-up list before we pull down any sets etc.

Here's a short synopsis of the film:

A frightening blend of supernatural horror and psychological drama, Wyke Wreake counts the cost of loss, guilt and reckless desperation as we delve into the life of one deeply disturbed young woman and the afterlife of one equally disturbed dead man.

In the wake of losing her baby, Kate Folkner has become obsessed with the occult, much to the horror of her sister Bec. One night Bec and her boyfriend visit Kate to try and make her see the danger of her obsession. Through a ouija board, they make contact with a mysterious spirit who offers to help Kate in her mission to find her dead son. But events soon take a menacing turn when the seance participants discover the true motives of the mystery stranger at their door and the dark, eerie place of child sacrifice known as WYKE WREAKE (an Old English name meaning Valley of the Witches).

We've no poster yet (the distributor created and selected the poster for our last film anyway), but will post updates/images/video as we get them. Anyways, for now here's a slideshow video of a few early screen grabs from principle so far. They've been (somewhat poorly) graded by myself and don't reflect the final look of the film. I did this simply in order to temporarily move away from the very low contrast Cinestyle look of the raw clips. Still, they at the very least give an idea of what the movie is about. I guess the look/feel we're going for is imagine if Kubrick had directed a Hammer Horror Film ;)

Thanks for reading! :)
