WWI Reenactment shot on DVX

GREAT!!!! Man that guy getting hit looked so real i actually felt bad for him. How long this this reinactment last? How many soldiers were involved? Post more details.

It lasted about 8 minutes and were probrably 25 people. Some left early because of the nasty weather. This was the second and final day. It was shot in Yorktown, VA. It was done near the site where Cornwallis surrendered.

that was really cool, I liked the POV shot at the end with the breathing, although i dont think it really matched with the stationary panning footage in the rest (i thought that was great considering you were limited to the sides?)

cool stuff!

That looked and sounded great. Nice job.

It appeared that a couple of the German soldiers were in WWII uniforms though.

Great stuff,
your audio might have been a little hot but thats about it.
Was that all shot with stock lens and everything or did you have matbox filters ect....?

Looked like a lot of fun, awesome to have something like that available to film try doing some smoother shots and mixing them with the rough footage following one or two soldires. also sample or get stock gun fire audio to overlay and completely remove the on camera sound. It's what they do in all major motion pictures. I think you should definitley do a short it would be fun and you would learn a lot!

Nice footage - especially liked the color at the end. It would be nice to see some cinema-style beauty shots mixed with the in the trenches footage.

My old boss was really into the WWII re-enactment scene and I ended up buying a uniform, Enfield and all the bits needed to go out with him on an event. About thirty people showed up to the meet, including German and French Resistence enactors.

That one was a completely authentic immersive enactment - once you'd unloaded your vehicle, it was moved way out of the battle-area and you were not allowed anything in camp that wasn't period authentic. As I walked back to the Brit area that first afternoon, which was protected by a personnel carrier and Bren gun, the illusion was quite complete.

I wished I'd had the DVX that weekend - those guys are hardcore about authenticity, and anywhere I could have pointed the camera without breaking the fourth wall.

Hit there,
A Dolly and Track, or crane would have made some awesome shots on this scene!

I also liked the color in this clip!

Thanks,
Derrick

Shot in 24p 500 shutter edited in vegas. used magic bullet.
Used a "slypod" for the steady-shots and converted the slypod to mono-pod for the rough shots. The trnch scene was a screw-up, since the coat was over the camera I shot it blind. Accidently had it zoomed in all the way. I guess it came out cool though by accident.

Was the sound ever too much for the mics? I may be filming a Civil War reenactment, and was wondering if I should be worried.

no I had the settings a little over half and the auto thingy on. I bumped up the volume in soundforge up to the the verge of clipping(because it was supposed to be loud) the trench scene was muted as if he had some hearing loss from all the explosions going on around him. I did not plan the shots I was just fartin around with the 500 shutter speed. I do have alot of smooth shots I may post if anyone wants to see them. Let me know.
