WTH? 72mm lens on HVX200p?

I bought a HVX200p,
Since I read the HVX200 has a 82mm lens,
I ordered the 82mm UV lens kit. It arrived today and
I was going to screw it on and go out and do some test shooting.

The 82mm UV lens didn't fit!
It was WAY too big.
I've been searching the net for hours trying to figure out
what I'm missing, tips, tricks etc.

THEN I had an idea, i dug out my old Cannon GL1 and its filter kit.

I tried one of its 72mm filters and bingo, it fit perfectly.

Sorry to be such a noob, if I'm missing something. I did RTFM,
and do a lot of searching. Even the company I bought
the UV filter from said that it was specifically for the HVX200.

Does everyone use 72mm type filters on the HVX200, or do I have a
Freak camera?

THANKS! :undecided

I know! This is completely weird.

I was wrong about the gl1, these are the 72mm protective lenses I bought for my DVX100, and they fit the hvx200 perfectly!

I'll take a picture and post it to this thread.

Bizzare...

Check your premises, there's something wrong here.

Either that isn't an HVX200, or it has an 82mm->72mm step-down ring on the front of it.

Barry, you are a genius! I looked on the bottom and there IS a redrock Micro step down ring on it!!!

Jeez, I just took about 10 photos to upload of the 72mm on both cameras, I thought I was loosing my mind!!!!!! :-P

It must be on there pretty tight - I can't seem to get it off

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe they shipped you a prototype of the successor to the HPX-170 which they had been building on an old HVX-200 body. :)

Awww... my scenario was so much more fun... :(

When I bought the camera it only had 2 hrs on it, I never though it was used with a Redrock, I would not even have thought to check...

I learned a great lesson today.

THANKS AGAIN!
