WTC trailer...

Zero interest currently. Didn't like the trailer. I predict this will be a huge hit though - even an oscar for a supporting actor/actress.

I think Oliver Stone gets a little ham-fisted at times making sure that every last audience member knows exactly what "point" he is trying to make. I just can't handle the potential for that type of filmmaking with this subject. Yes, I'm passing judgement early - but this trailer reinforces my suspicions about Stone's treatment of this subject.

Hey, I love political filmmakers - even propagandists in some instances! I respect Stone's desire to tackle contemporary issues and politics, but too often I feel he's using a dull axe rather than a sharp chisel to carve out his ideas.

One film where I felt he toned it down a little was Nixon, which I liked. I think I'm in the minority on that one though.

ON TOPIC

i thought the trailer looked good. but the same with United 93, they should donate ALL the proceeds to the funds for the memorial and other organizations that will help remember 9/11. if they did that i'd be first in line to see... in fact i'd see more than once to help out the memorial fund and such. i truly believe that they should donate everything to victim's funds and memorial funds and such...

I saw the preview, and I have no interest. I lived 9/11, I don't need films about it, just my personal opinion. If there was one person who would get me to see a 9/11 film it would be Stone though.

Ditto on all counts... Not sure I could endure it, all over again. Though it might provide a catharsis...

I visited my barber a month ago, he's just a few blocks above the hole. He was booked and asked me to come back in an hour, so I wandered down to the site and couldn't believe the crowd that continues to assemble down there just to see this pit, left over from the tragedy. A time line of events has been erected. I started reading it and couldn't help but get caught up in a whirl wind of emotion... It might be too fresh for a movie. But looks like we're gonna have one wether we like it or not. Oh well, if big oil and the military industrial complex can profit from this turn of events, why not Hollywood?

looks too precious to me.

"Precious" is a great word to describe it. I found myself feeling hostile watching it. I guess I am a bit conservative on this issue, but I still think it's too early for 9/11 films. The first thing I noticed was he didn't have the sky right. That morning was truly the most gorgeous, big-sky morning -- the first thing I thought when I woke up that day was how I couldn't remember ever seeing such a gorgeous clear blue sky in Manhattan, ever. And 15 minutes later the first plane hit. That's all I could think about, watching the trailer, was, if you're gonna make a film about that day, get it right. OK, so in terms of the national experience of 9/11, anyone outside of the city is not going to think about what the sky looked like that morning. But if you were here on 9/11, everyone remembers that sky. What I'm trying to say is, I just think getting hung up on a detail like that is an indication that, at least for me, it's just too soon, perhaps, for these films. Yes, we need films to honor and digest and make sense of our national, collective AMerican experience. But, if it was part of your daily experience... I don't need to see it, don't wanna see it, have no interest in it whatsoever.

I always find reservation with the Native mentality when it comes to disasters.

As in 'If you were not here; then you just wont get it'. This is thrown around almost in a prideful way and I find it disrespectful to other peoples compassion and empathy.

9/11 was an attack on the United States . It was not just New York. Any recall the Pentagon ? What about the one headed presumedly into DC that crashed in Pennsylvania or even the rumored Los Angleles flight ?

This event was bigger than being a New Yorker.

I think of events like Pearl Harbor, Katrina, Mount St Helens, even my own San Diego had a firestorm of hell rip through it a few years ago and to hear concern, compassion or even artistic tribute to any of those events is a way of healing, honor and rememberance.

Stone is a native New Yorker. I'd expect him to honor and be respectful of the source material. He isn't an exploitive filmmaker by nature. Some people say that now is not the time, some say it is. If not now, when ?

I think that answer is different for everyone.

wow....a trailer full of reaction shots...

this looks totaly retarded....im usualy pretty good about giving things a chance....but this looks totaly stupid.

i thought any given sunday was a poorly made film. the insertion of chariots and the such just really turned me off. however, some of the performnaces were really good (diaz, pacino, if forgot his name), but i didn't really like foxx's performance.

othewise i really like stone. he makes some of the most significant films today.

asteroid film? is this referring to armaggedon?

based on the trailer i don't think you can compare them.

armaggedon was a very testotesterone driven made with the intent of being cheesy for a younger audience.

this film doesn't look like that at all, again based on the trailer.

also nicolas cage has the talent to deliver the goods.

My first thought upon seeing the trailer for the film also made me immediately think "Armageddon". Yet I highly doubt that this movie will be as exploitive as a summer disaster movie, ala Armageddon. The trailer did seem manipulative to me, though I'll surely make an effort to go see this in the theaters, given the talent involved. It definitely has a much more "Hollywood" vibe to it than United 93, but there's nothing wrong with that if the material is handled properly. It looks more interesting than most of the other movies coming out this summer.

OK, finally saw the trailer on a computer where it didn't stutter.

I think I will see this film. Seems like Stone has got a real grip on this.

I guess they checked the weather data for early morning that day. Maybe there were a few clouds, but by a quarter to seven though, it had to be clear as a bell out. We were having that incredibly rare perfect fall weather for at least a few days before and after... They'll get hell if they didn't get the weather right.

I always brought friends visiting from out of town up there.

I'll never forget. Nobody beeped their horn for over a month after.

Really? That was some of the worst depictions of football I've ever seen. Even the uniforms were awful. I'm not even really an NFL fan, but I know what football is supposed to be.

Maybe Stone made American Football look "European Friendly" ? :)

I liked the movie and the performances. Ok, it is a pretty average story, but it works.
