Wtb ~ Dvx100a/b !!!

Hello guys!!!

A complete noobs here.

I am looking for a DVX100A/B for my son. There is no rush, this will be a christmas present.

He is 17 years old, and has worked (since 16) as a production assistant at a small film company. He is a bright, gifted lad.. and has been seriously interested in film making since he was 10. His film editing skills have been praised by all his media teachers, in short a camera of this caliber is not going to go to waste in his very capable hands. :D

There is a catch, I am in Toronto .. and would love to deal locally.

BUT, if not possible... I'll make do by dealing only with well known members at dvxuser.

My intention is to provide a heads up to anyone that is considering selling/upgrading his/her equipment by Christmas.

Thanks for having such a great forum !!!

Change of plans ~~ We are looking for the AG-DVC30.

The original plan to get an DVX100 (a/b) camera has been scratched. He is looking now for the AG-DVC30. His point is that he needs to keep some money for extras (he was paying half of the DVX100).

If you have a DVC30 camera collecting dust, please PM me :dankk2:

WOW what a lucky guy and a great dad !!

Well just wanted to say welcome and yes it's a great site!

Cyber6, your son will be FOREVER grateful after this upcoming christmas!! haha. Take it from myself, a 17 year old aspiring film maker who has done many film projects and worked for film companies just like your son. I do not have my own DVX but have been shopping for one for a while. For me to buy one at this age is a big purchase and I know your son will be in awe when he sees his new cam. Good look purchasing. (Good job picking the right camera by the way).

Still looking for the DVX? If you are interested, I have an original DVX100 in great shape with accessories I am looking to sell (buying an HVX200). Good deal for an awesome camera. Let me know if you are interested and I'll get some pics & details for you.

Thanks Elevation, you do sound like a great kid too. This is a big purchase for my son too. His original intention was to get something around $1000 (around 50% of his summer savings). He knows the DVX series camera very well, but he believes there is no point in dreaming of something he can't afford. The surprise will be that when Christmas comes... instead of shopping for a camera in the $1000 bracket, we'll shop for a camera in the $2500 bracket!!! (I'll pay for the difference)

Oh yes, I still want him to use his money on it. I am a firm believer that he should have some "sweat equity" in that camera. He'll take better care of it that way.

Thank you very much Ben. The soonest I'll be considering offers will be November. I am also very keen in getting the DVX100B, maybe the 100A if it is an amazing deal. But thank you very much for your consideration.

Ben Hill, gladly offer the cam to Cyber6 first, but if he does not want it I am definitely interested. Let me know.

Cyber6, I am in the same position as your son. Ive worked all summer saving for a camera and have come up short, hence trying to find a great deal. Welcome here and thanks for the go ahead.

I may be upgrading to the HVX by the next year. If I do I well be happy to sell you my DVX 100A. It has very low hours and is in mint condition. I am currently a student at UCLA and will see how my grants, scholarships, and loans work out. Send me a PM and lets start the process. I am not 100% that I am selling it, but I will let you know.

People are having very good results from www.newegg.com
There's a post on the forum somewhere about someone who just got theirs. Rebate included. Make sure you get an authentic u.s. version and it is about the best price you will find

Elevation, remember... there is always next year. If you are still in school.. Can you borrow the school equipment??.. Cause that is what my son is doing in the meantime.

Thanks Ramjet, that'll be in consideration too at that time. Right now, the money is tight, he has around $1000 and I'll put in the difference (up to $1500). That leaves us with a budget of $2500. Newegg prices (with rebate) is around $2850, and that is without adding taxes (we pay another 14% here in Ontario) + shipping... etc.. Way out of his budget.

But maybe by December prices will come down,

I think it's because most people assume that only a father would indulge in such an expensive toy. It was my impression because I've got a similar deal with my dad; he said he'll match whatever I put into it, he's definitely a believer in sweat equity. Anyway, kudos to you for recognizing the value of quality filmmaking tools and the necessity for them.

You know, if you get the dvx from an authorized dealer, there is now a 500 dollar rebate on it?

Maybe you should make up the difference for him and let him get the dvx. It is christmas after all :)

Thanks for the info Jason, but I believe the rebate is only valid in the USA.

I will be making up the difference, he only has to pay for half of the camera. He is a great kid and if I could afford the DVX price I would get it myself. :crybaby:

Thanks anyway... :dankk2:
