Planning to buy one of these lights, but thought I'd see if anyone has one they don't want/need before I go for the new ones.

Let me know!

How do you like the Comer? I was going to get one (but haven't as of yet) for my HVX200.

Is it as good as the video tests footage indicate?

Mine should arrive tomorrow or Friday, I'll be doing my own comparisons pretty quickly and I'll post here or somewhere and let you know!

From what other people have told me, and the test footage, it really looks like a good light for the price (only other LED I've even considered is the Zylight Z90, and it's waaaaay more $$$).

Do you use the Comer 1800 in conjunction with the Steadicam Pilot, or does that affect the total weight too much?

It's tricky, but I have done it.

For event work (weddings...especially for stuff like the couple's first dance) the light intensity changes as you move in and out toward the couple, so you have to manage that. Either wire on an iris controller or leave it on auto iris. My suggestion is auto iris, since operating a Steadicam - especially at a live event - doesn't leave much room in the brain for judging focus and iris at the same time (and doing it well).

Also, the light does make the camera very front heavy and moves the the center of balance up the center pole substantially, so you'll either need to extend the bottom stage all the way down, or add more weight to the bottom (or both, most likely).

So as long as you can manage the balance and exposure considerations, it's a really good solution.

Thanks for the tip; I was more concerned about the balance since I know the 1800 is a substantial accessory, and you explained it quite helpfully--it seems like an ideal combo when it can work! I assume you have an on-camera microphone too? That and the light are the only additions I would be dealing with.

I figure that's about all that can happen, given the 10 lb. limit! I have the Zoom H4n too, though I imagine that's for another kind of setup.
