WTB: Chimera/Profoto Pancake Lantern - but confused

I'm interested in buying a pancake softbox lantern by either Chimera or Profoto with skirts.
Not too sure which to get, what's the pros/cons of each.

But what I'm not sure about is the light inside them.
What lights do I use with them? - it supports up to 1000w. So, what kind of light do I need exactly?
And same with an adapter ring. Why do I need one, and what kind is needed as I've seen many.

Now, how do I attach they lights? Do I need a stand or a clamp? I'm confused.

You'd need preferably an open face light of some sort. Fresnels are inefficient in order to be a point-source, but that's irrelevant if you're diffusing it. And you need the adapter ring to do two things - attach the pancake to whatever lighting instrument you get, and to hold the rods that maintain the shape of the pancake in place.

I used a chimera pancake with a mickey mole a week ago and it worked great, but I can't say if it's better than whatever Profoto has to offer since I've never used any of their products.

All Ive got are the Arri lights(300,650 and an open face 1000w)
You can use those lights for the Chimera pancakes?
Isnt it too large to use them?

I do it the cheap way, inexpensive Chinese lanterns with a large CFL inside. Use black wrap where needed.
Or, I can just stick with the pancake as it has been designed to be flat so I can hide it on ceiling so its not visible like those Chinese lanterns.

The mickey mole is a 1k open face and there were no overheating issues. I did make sure to not close off the top entirely though.
Also, you can definitely get china balls that are less tall than they are wide.
