WTB: C-stands

I just bought some Flags to use to block unwanted light and now I need some C-stands. If anyone is selling any or know where I can get some for a decent price, let me know. I am also looking for a C-stand with an extension arm (boom) too.

Thanks

Call Pyramid-Films (http://usedmovielighting.com/) You can normally get 2 used C-stands for $150 plus $20 shipping. When I bought a bunch from them most were Norms brand. Yeah, they are a little beat up, but still VERY useful as it's almost impossible to kill a c-stand.

There website hasn't been updated since some time in 2008 so I am wondering if those prices are still legit. I am referring to the usedmovielighting.com website.

What is the target usage for a C Stand? I have 4 lighting stands... is there a general need to add C Stands to my kit?

Harry, C stands are not meant to hold lights, they are used , well for many things, but their main purpose in life is to hold, flags, nets and silks. These flags, silks and nets come in different sizes and control light in different ways. A flag is solid and will completely block light from a subject. Nets are basically neutral density scrims that knock light level down. These come in single nets and double nets. Silks are used to make the light source larger, therefore "softening" the shadows the light puts off. They are also used for many other purposes, rigging, holding boom mics, holding foamcore reflectors (etc).
Although I said they are not meant to hold lights, they can be used for booming small lights, I use them to ideally position small 200 and 300 watt backlights for interviews for example. Extra precautions should be used when booming lights...be sure to put sandbags on the base and ALWAYS make sure all your heads and arms are tightening to the right, even when using flags. By doing so gravity the make the weight of the light work for you by tightening the rig. If you use them to the left the weight of the light can loosen the rig and you could knock out some angry CEO or politician....I know what your thinking, but ALWAYS tighten to the right. Hope this helps. Jeff
