WTB: Baseplate, Rods and Lens Support

Hey Everyone,

I'm building my own 35mm adapter and I'm going to need something to support it. I've got a budget of $200, but before I bought the indirails with the cavision lens support, I thought I'd post to see if someone is looking to part with their setup at a reasonable price.

Thanks.

TEM,
Have you considered the Zacuto line? I'm a huge fan (if you look at some postings on here). There baseplate is great for products like Redrock's M2 because it allows vertical adjustment. Looking at the Indirails, they allow for the same type of adjustment and they have carbon rails. However, I'd be somewhat worried about balance, which Zacuto handles well. Consider design and expandability and then compare that to your budget can handle and decide from there.

Zacuto is going to run WAY more than $200. For that budget, you are stuck in the indie rails range.

Zacuto may seem pricey, but it's definitely worth the price. TEM, you really have to weigh cost versus quality here. TEM, try this... shoot an email to Zacuto and see if they will give you a break on a baseplate kit? If they give you a price break you can handle, it is definitely worth it!

I have no experience with the Indie Rails. However, one thing that I'd prefer to see is two rails input blocks (front and back) versus the one they have on the front now. It makes me worry if the stress of a 35mm adapter and lenses could potentially break the block (not the carbon fiber rails - those are solid I bet). Just some food for thought ~JS

The block for the indirails is pretty solid and they do offer a model with 2 blocks, it's 30 inches long.

Hey Guys,

Oh, how I would love to be able to get me some Zacuto goodness. It's just that the money isn't there. A few members have made me some great offers on their old kits, so we'll see what I end up with for now. Down the road, and hopefully after a few good gigs, I'll be able to upgrade my rig with higher end gear, because JS, we're both on the same page about price vs quality (it's the reason why I went for Arris instead of Briteks--although money was flowing a bit more back then).

Ram, how do you like your indirails?

I look at it this way. Sometimes you have to spoil yourself with things like good lenses and what not (optics first I always say). However when you spoil yourself, you end up having to make sacrifices elsewhere. Glad to hear you're still considering Zacuto in the future TEM.
