Hey guys, i didnt realize my M2 bundle didnt come with a lens, (duh) you can tell Im new. i was wondering if anyone was selling some basic lenses that would work for it. Thanks

Hi ,
what mount do you have? Nikon , Canon , etc....

Do you know what you want? 50mm ,28mm or 80mm? 1.8, 1.4 , 1.2?

David

i think im getting the nikon mount

Nikon 50mm AF f/1.4

thats a lens someone told me about. dont know what else

Have you check that your M2 has a nikon mount?

First is to use a lens with the lowest 'F' rating possible. The lower the F rating the more light passes through the lens, more light = better image. All lenses have an 'F' rating, shown on the front of the lens.'f1.8', 'F1.4' or 'F1.2' . '1.2' lens is the better one as it lets in more light, but they are more expensive.

A 50mm is good to start off with, But a 28mm lens gives a wider FOV. A nice 28mm F2.8 lens can be picked up for a good price (on ebay). Also, an 80mm lens will be good for close ups.

Can you get to a old camera shop or flee markets , its better if you try to look for manual lens. Its cheaper than the auto ones.( you can't use the auto focus anyway.) I would think that there are many laying around in shops ( there are tonnes laying around here in munich),collecting dust on shelves. and you can look out for scraches and fungus. But On ebay, one mans good might not be acceptable for you. Try to get a 1.4. it lets in more light. if you need it darker, you can always use a ND. but when you need it bright. you need to have more light source.

hope it helps.

A camera lens is very similar to the human eye. Much like the pupil of a human eye, the size of a lens aperture may be adjusted to allow more or less light into the camera.

The camera lens aperture is messured in f-stops which include f-1, f-1.4, f-2, f-2.8, f-4, f-5.6, f-8, f-11, f-16, f-22, f-32. The larger the f stop, the smaller the aperture opening and thus the less light it allows into the camera. The f-stop number is calculated by taking the focal lenght and dividing it by the diameter of the aperture opening.

No you don't want auto focus. unless you want to use it for your automatic SLR camera. ( by using the 35mm adapter, you don't have the control to use the auto function in the lens. it a waste then)

a 50mm is a good lens to start.

it o.k, you don't need anymore rings. just the lens to the adapter.

This is my 2cents of thoughts:

A 1.8 f lens reads from ( 1.8, 2.8 ,4, etc...)

A 1.4f lens reads from (1.4, 2, 2.8, 4, etc...)

the lower(faster) the f-stop the more light it lets in, the better you can focus. Anyway you be most likely to be using the f-stops of not higher(slower) than f2.8.Higher than this, you be really pushing the camera. lighting woukd be a factor here. I would take a f1.4 lens. it gives me better range of f-stops to play around.

Anyway, these are just my 2cents worth...

Check out Pawn shops also....They will let you really check it out at your leisure..especially if you mention that you might by multiple ones like I did. But the best rate is to pay cash only. Just make sure you really check glass out closely and notice if the previous owner had a UV filter to protect the lens.
