Writing a script for TVC

Just got a gig to write a 30sec TVC script..for a Chain of Japanese takeway restaurants in Australia, any ideas for a good laugh.:crybaby:

Can you give more info on what the company's about and what you might be looking for?

On TV stuff I start with simple, few-word concepts of what I'm looking for and then tune in from there. For example: It may be a stereotype, but for a Japanese restaurant I think of Samurai swords ( I hope that's not offensive), guys in all the same exact business suit, live fish (think of fish talking about to get cooked), then again drifting is big in Japan so maybe that would play into the delivery concept.

It's almost impossible to know what you might be looking for without some parameters. To say Japanese takeout in Australia....well, that's pretty broad.

let's hear what you have to say.

Cheers,

J.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions,
Theyre a chain of fast food japanese and sell predominately sushi, and crap like that.
franchised yes, What else? Something querky? funny?

Budget? Location possibilities? Shooting format?

Is there a website for the company?

Sushi isn't inherently funny....but the word SUSHI is funny even to people that use it often. People yelling SUSHI in a bar or restaurant could be funny....making a bigger deal of the word than it's worth. OK, now I'm just stretching for anything.

Hey, Budget...no Budget...anywhere in Melbourne Australia.
No website...sorry..i was thinking that too. No that sound ok...
Where r u based?

Too bad about the website. It would be better to get info and a feel for the company.

I live in Arizona, USA.

Sometimes it doesn't have to be about the actual product directly, but something memorable that incorporates the product.

For example, my favorite commercial right now is a Burger King commercial. It is a role-reversal piece where a father comes into the room and says, "Ok, let's go". The kids are playing and the boy says "Not now". The dad says, "But I want to get a Whopper" (or something like that). The kid, without looking up from his video game says, "I'm a little busy here". The mom comes in at this point and both parents start whining and crying saying, "But you said we could go" or "We really want to go" (something along those lines). The kid responds, "Fine, get in the car".

The commercial is memorable to me because of what happens, then I remember via the content that it was a Burger King commercial. It's not a commercial ABOUT Burger King, but it still makes me think of Burger King (if that makes any sense).

Sorry, I don't have any ideas for you...but hopefully that will help you in your quest for a funny, memorable idea.

Peace,
Larry

It is important to know what kind of Sushi place this is. Do they attempt to deliver an authentic Japanese sushi experience, or are they going for a Sushi meets Australia kind of thing?

If it's the latter, try to bring out the culture clash between Sushi & Australia (I'm assuming there is one?) What about a bunch of men sitting at the bar, the sushi is served, and a rugby game breaks out (using sushi pieces). Or an Australian is sitting next to a Japanese man drinking sake from a small cup, next to his gigantic pint of Fosters, and then they figure out to combine the two for a sake bomb? I think something that says "Hey, Sushi is foreign, but that's okay" could provide for some laughs as well as an effective brand sell.
