wrist support for merlin

Has anyone used a wrist support product for Merlin? I know there isn't one specifically dedicated to it but I was wondering if anyone has tried generic wrist supports (for example, ones for arthritis...)

The few times I've worn a wrist support, there wasn't enough padding in there to feel comfortable under even a slight load. Also, at least the one I used, was designed to prevent motion in the direction of the palm; the side to side motion or the wrist was not addressed. And that's the direction the Merlin is going to be pushing.

Some people have made their own metal forearm braces though, which work pretty well from what I've heard.

A wrist brace isn't really necesarry and won't have much effect for operating the Merlin.

The Merlin is designed in such a way that the center of gravity is placed over your hand, so there is very little (practically non) tourque on your wrist.

Are you operating a Merlin and experienced wrist pain? or are you trying to find some way to help support the weight as your arm is getting tired?

Thanks for the replies.

I'm trying to find something that will support my wrist and prevent it from bending in unwanted directions.

Sort of. My wrist can't support what my arm can support. It bends against the weight.

Hmm. How are you holding the Merlin? Is the handle vertical in your "carrying" hand?

Any chance you can post a picture of your grip style?

Wow, the forum died before the conversation ended.

I'm dealing with the same issue and I believe I'm holding it correctly, but with a fully loaded DVX and all the counterweights installed, that thing is friggin heavy! Hold it for 8 hours and the ligaments on your wrist start to give out. My thumb went numb I guess from a pinched nerve.

And I hold it exactly like it is shown in the video.

If you are working for that long with a camera as large as the DVX, you really should consider getting the Vest & Arm to carry the load for you.

just got the merlin, realised that its too heavy for a full day shot, should i get a pilot or merlin vest for dvx

Pilot is better suited to DVX & larger sized cameras than the Merlin. Both work, Pilot just has more space for other stuff.
