I got my SONY FE 2.8/24mm-70mm G lense today and walked around with this lense on a A7r2. And my first impression is: What a lense! poo pooing expensiv, Sharp as neighbours dog, almost no distorsion and nice, natural colors. Very solid build quality. For Video I used the Tiffen 82mm variabel Grey filtre, (seems to be very good, as well)
After the first 60 Minutes I dont regret to spent the money :-)

Been watching the rolling review on Fred Miranda - many are using the A7rII with 42mp stills, the GM is stunning under those tests, it should be really sharp shooting video.

Wow indeed, that lense is beautiful! Just got myself an A7Rii, but as you can imagine...not much money left for this beast, lol

maybe one day...

Thanks for posting your footage. Anyone know where I can find this lens?

Out-of-stock everywhere!

Yes, its very expensiv. If you buy it together with the A7r2 you will spent almost 6000 (!!!) Euros. But,Sony is throwing out new cameras every month – in this way you soon have an „old“ camera. But with a lense like this, I could imagine that it will stand some years.

I like my Sony cameras, but I donttrust in this company. Are there really seriuos firmware updates tooptimize your camera? No. It takes a long time and it served only themost necessary, the inevitable.
This lense, I am sure, will serve the A7R 3,4,5, with 10bit even better !!

I own the Sony FE 1.8/55mm as well, its a nice lense but for manual focus almost unusable, I am quite sure its fly by wire, quite different with the G-zoom. For me its very smooth to focus and, a good helper, there is a scale in the EVF where you can read the focus distance, When I am looking through the EVF I can focus with one finger quite easy.
Til now I see only one "drawback": When you zoom into the 70mm area, the tubus of the lense comes out and makes the zoom 5cm longer, but I think thats typical for wide angel zooms. It is the same with my Canon 4/24-105mm Zoom.

AFAIK, all E-mount lenses that have AF are fly-by-wire. Some have a very unnatural feel and are awful to focus manually, some are actually good and perfectly usable. Not sure about this one, though.

As I wrote above: I own the Sony FE 1.8/55mm, nice, sharp lense, but not for manual focus. It has the "very unnatural feel" as Samuel said. But the FE 2.8/24mm-70mm is the opposite - its easy to focus with one finger and has a very natural feeling while focussing.
