Wow . . . VERY powerful

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

Damn it! I must wait a couple weeks! (Budget!)

Just had my sons bday, my wifes bday and mothers day all in 3 weeks!

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

I finally burned my first DVD with Vegas 5 and DVD-A2 today (test actually) (I was using Vegas 4 and other DVD software previously). Few things:

David - you can install Vegas on both your desktop and laptop with the same activation code (I have both Vegas 5 and DVD-A2 on my laptop and my desktop.) Whoever asked, V5 installs in it's own directory. I assume future versions of 5 (5b, 5c etc.) will install right over the existing install. just like with Vegas 4. But Vegas 4 still lives where ever it was installed previously. However, beware: Vegas 4 cannot open Vegas 5 .veg files.

DVD-A2 has been a bit of a bear. I got Vegas pretty easily but I'm having a hard time learning DVD-A2. That being said, the great thing for me is I finally created a 24p widescreen DVD from my DVX footage. And it was relatively simple. I shot some stuff in letterbox (I have a 100) 24pA thin mode and then created a 24p widescreen project in Vegas 5. I used the pan/crop setting to 16:9 on each event and it basically cut off the black bars on top/bottom of the image (though I noticed in the preview window thin black verticle bars on the left and right side. Not an issue since on a TV they're covered by the overscan area but they did show up on my menu buttons in DVD-A2. I may try selecting the "stretch to fill screen" setting.) It did this by streching the video vertically to fill the screen. Shooting in thin mode maximized my resolution and I didn't notice any vibrating / shimmering on thin horizontal lines I usually get in thin mode on a regular NTSC video. I rendered it out to a widescreen 24p mpg file and it looked really good. There wasn't any noticeable softening of the image due to the stretch. Plus the rendering times didn't seem any longer with the widescreen stretch.

So I now finally have true 24p widescreen progressive DVD's without spending $700 on the anamorphic lens. It was worth the $249 upgrade.

Yes you can, but its against the ULA, and if you try and talk to each other (ie render farm) the programs will let you know your breaking the agreement.

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

Yeah. I haven't read the ULA but I think I've seen posts by Vegas officials on the various forums which say it's OK to install the programs on more than one computer as long as you don't use them at the same time.

Exactly! The process of stretching adds just enough interline blur to eliminate the thin-line shimmering. What you end up with is 360 lines of resolution, the same as you'd get from a "native 16:9" interlaced camera... the DVX is capable of the best 16:9 footage of any camera out there!

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

OK, been playing with this 3D track motion. I really wish it were clip-based, not track based, but even so, it's probably the easiest and most intuitive 3D motion editor I've seen. Took me no time to have things flying all over the place.

One thing that should be noted -- between Vegas 4 and Vegas 5, a number of the compositing controls have been modified or completely changed. The way you do something in 4 (like masking with a parent/child track) is entirely different in 5. Beware!

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

Hey David,
I just orderd Vegas 5 + DVD and have 2 computers.
Can I download it on both machines or what?

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

Heck,
I just noticed that I went to a Trainee on the forum.
Ive been busy the past few weeks and havent posted anything lately. I wonder if that has something to do with it? ???

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

You can download it to both. If you use the same access code for both, it will work, as long as you don't try to network them. Technically, it's a violation of the EULA. See above.

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

My son ordered the Vegas5 +DVD on Acedemic Super Store and it comes with some Borris and Majic Bullet software.
$268.00. Not a bad deal I hope!
