Wow . . . VERY powerful

I've been slowly going through the new features in Vegas 5 . . . I'm *very* impressed.  There's a very great deal it can now do do right in Vegas that you had to go to AE or another effects program for. Even the little sample projects show you a bit of what it can do.

This program is SWEET.  Now, if only it took advantage of the GPU for realtime performance and background rendering . . .

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

Have you used the dvda-2 yet. I just ordered the vegas5+dvd this week and have not received it yet. I hope the dvd app is good. was not to impressed with the dvda-1 trial. I use encore right now but want to switch.
I like vegas and look forward to 5. let us know

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

I haven't used DVD-A2 yet, but if it combines the simplicity and intuitiveness of DVD-A1 with the power of the new advanced features, don't know how it could be anything but great.

I'll let you know, though.

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

Of course, they CALL it an upgrade, but it doesn't remove or replace either Vegas 4 or DVD-A1. Both are still fully-functional, for whatever good that might do you.

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

Tks for the heads up on the date David!

Basically it's a downlaod that overwrites existing V4 plus DVD, yes? What if you get a new computer or want to install it on another one (Home for example)?

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

It does NOT overwrite anything.  Vegas 4 and DVD-A1 are still installed and fully-functional.

If you get a new computer, burn the download to a CD (I've already done this).  I suppose you can also always download the software again as long as you have your activation code.

As for installing it on more than one computer concurrently, I don't know. I haven't tried it. I'm getting a laptop soon and am going to try it then. I hope it works.

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

Yes Vegas 5 is incredible. I got it the day it came out and am learning some cool new stuff every single day. Last week I actually finally got around to testing the Network rendering, and having 3 machines rendering one project is a dream come true. I actually may even invest in another copy just to add 3 more rendering machines to the farm.

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

Does that mean if I have a kick ass DELL server and a PC I can combine
the power of these to render a project?

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

yes... each Vegas license allows you to use 3 machines to all work together and render.. and it actually works :)

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

I will be updating before May 31st.

Jarred, you might have to tutor me on the server thing though. Can you see me sitting there staring at this huge Dell sever; like I know WTF to do with it.

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

its actually the easiest network render farm I have ever installed (back in the day when I did 3d work I made a few Linux Farms.. now that is a pain in the ass)

In fact, it basically installs itself, you really dont need to do anything technical.

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

Yeah, when you install the program, it gives you the choice to install the full version or just the render node.  It's very simple.

However, what sort of results are you getting from your network rendering Jarred?  From what I've been observing in other users' systems, the advantage of network rendering is marginal at best due to the very slow 'stitching' process that reconnects all of the segments rendered on the different machines after everything has rendered. It seems Sony didn't employ the most efficient method to reconnect the clips, but instead, one of the least efficient.

David, at least in Vegas 4, the license allowed you to install Vegas on up to 2 systems.  Hopefully that remains true for V5.

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

I just finished editing a 84 minute Feature with lots of layers, so it saved a ton of time, but on short clips its problally not really worth it.

And Vegas 5 only lets you install Vegas 5 on 1 system. the render client can go on 2 or 3?, but if you try and do a full install on 2 systems they talk to each other and tell you your a pirate... that is if you try and do any network rendering.

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

I had never planned to network my soon-to-be laptop into anything, so I might be OK.

Or not. Guess we'll find out!

Re: Wow . . . VERY powerful

John, when you finally do download, I suggest checking out the Rack Focus sample project. I think you'll find it fascinating.
