WOW! STUNNING Z1 footage!!

Hey,

I saw the trailer for "Tommorrow is Today". How did they get the Z1 footage to look so good? did they shoot it in the Cinematic Ganma mode? Did they de-interlace?

It makes me say screw the DVX-100.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Chris

They shot 50i, deinterlaced, cropped and added the nattress gamma plugin.

That's it.

Looks amazing if you ask me.

funny thing is that that one is horrible and the Tomorrow is Today footage and story is better. Shows growth in a big way.

It's not as good as Tomorrow is Today, I agree but I wouldn't say it's horrible at all.

Just a different genre. Also, the filmmaker explains that it was shot as an experiment to test the HDV format over a weekend.

I thought "Trap" was pretty good too. Personally I would have shot the 1st halve from "Big Brother" camera angles though. :)

Yeah you're right. I don't think it's horrible but more like amaturish compared to what he did afterwards with Tomorrow is Today. I just really like that piece.

Is the trailer provided being shown in 24 fps, or is it still 50i? It looks film like in the motion, so I'm surprised to hear that the footage is shot with 50i; unless they got it to be 24 fps just for the trailer?

And this is an unrelated question; but what is the difference between CineFrame 24 and 25; and why did MacGregor choose to shoot his footage in 25 instead?

I read and saw some testes that stated deinterlacing reduces the same amount of resulution as 25P. I'd like to know what color correction was done on it. What is this "nattress gamma"? Do they have it for after effects or premiere?

It only reduces resolution if you duplicate the fields, not as much if you merge them.

Here's a link to the Nattess plugin, gamma is included in Film Effects:

Does this nattress plugin work only on FCP or can you use it in After Effects or Premiere?

Good question, you might want to ask Graeme Nattress, the developer.

You can send him an email from his website.

That's one of the reasons I was so keen to post it.

Everyone gets really wrapped up in the whole "this camera resolves 30% greater vertical res, but this one was 1 stop more latitude..."

Story and the way you tell it is what counts. All these cameras are capable enough.

Now if I just had 30% more talent!

Thank you for posting that comment and putting things in perspective. :dankk2:
