All these cameras are going to be released around the same time.I want to wait and see what the competition will bring. But my job is telling me to buy a 5DM2 already for my lowlight footages in night clubs.
I cant wait till we see more footages and reviews from these cameras.

There is only one answer... if you hold out for the next best thing you will be holding out for the rest of your life. Buy the best camera you can for your budget when you NEED it... and use that until your budget swells enough again to get the current best camera going. It depends on where you live, and what you shoot, at what production budget level, but I really believe the best thing to do is rent. That way you're not locked in. But I know in smaller cities that's not a possibility.

There's no point in renting these dslrs they are so cheap to begin with and it takes a lot of time to understand how to get really good footage out of them. I have been hearing people say "wait for scarlet" for years now and still no scarlet.

I doubt the GH2 is going to provide better footage than the GH1.3 and if it does it will be some slight better low light performance. The big deal for some will be live monitoring (albeit with glitches) but I have already learned how to work around that anyway.

So you probably aren't going to kill yourself in getting a GH2 but it isn't going to be a GH1.3 killer unless it as well is hackable.

I plan to try and stick with Panasonic because SINCE the DVX100 has come out they have been THE company to provide the closest thing to a film look on shooting video every time. EX1 looks like video.. Canon's look like video.. RED is waaayy too much money for me to consider right now. But I am not a fanboy that I wouldn't switch if another company really beat that panny mojo.

Well put Blackout but that's what I mean, I got a GH1 and that's fantastic for all my commercial and low budget music videos. But for the higher budget stuff I say go rent RED if you can... my point was all these cameras that come out every couple months are usually 6 of one, hald dozen of the other... No one really comes in and smashes the game wide open, so anything you choose can be the right choice depending on what you do with it.

Basically it's hard to make a bad choice with the technology available today.

With all said. For my lowlight needs since I have 2 GH1(3)'s I will buy the 5DM2. Thanks for the input. I was considering waiting for the Nikon D7000 but from what I been reviewing the sensor in the 5DM2 still is best for lowlight.

After all this time, nothing has quite dethroned the 5Dmk2. There are some advantages to the others with frame rates and such, but the 5D is still my favorite.

I am looking for a camera that can do 1080p 60p and 24p. All other frame rates are +'s.

TRUE 1080p 24p(DVD/Film) is most important to me, and the ability to do some slomo(60p-120p) and or time lapse are huge stylistic benefits.

30p or 25p and 60i or 50i are important from the broadcast/web side of things, which make a camera a much more compelling buy, for sure. Most paid projects are for broadcast and web, so naturally we want something that conforms to those standards.

One thing the GH2 may have done right, is the rumored full res hdmi output during record. THAT is big for me, as focus can be very hit or miss sometimes on the little 480pixel 3" LCD's on DSLR's.

But the GH2 not having 50p or 60p is, sadly, a deal breaker for me. I will be passing on this one.

Generally, I agree with that. But clearly the next round of salvos are being fired right now and waiting 3 months might be worth it.

I would say this though - If you know what camera line you're going to buy (Panny, Canon, Nikon), then you can start getting lens and other gear that will be usable regardless of what exact camera you end up getting.

I'm riding my T2 'til the Mark III... when I'll either be able to get a Mark II cheaper or pony up the dough for the III. It's not so much that I don't think a cam like the GH2 doesn't look good; rather I already have the Canon glass.

'Course I should be able to use it on the AF100 too...

so would I be able to ad an external LCD to the 5DM2?

You could, but it would not help for focus while recording, as the resolution drops down significantly on record.

So there is not much use for a monitor. Perhaps a z-finder of sorts, could help you get the most out of the camera's built in lcd.

(I have not personally attached an external monitor to the 5D, I am going on the opinion of a friend of mine who is a 1st AC and DP, and has owned a 5Dmk2 for a while.)

If someone already has a camera that is functional, then waiting 3 months is viable, but if they have nothing, or something that does not fit their needs in anyway, they should definitely jump in and start using the tools that are close to their needs and available today. They can resell them in a few months time and recoup their costs to put towards something better.

That three months would be better spent using a GH1 or T2i or D3100, then it would reading forums and twiddling their thumbs.

A month or two is worth the wait, but three months or more is not.

Though you are possibly right about the lenses. Buying lenses second hand at good prices takes time, and should be started early. However, there is nothing wrong with starting with the kit lens and building from there. The muddy resolution of these dslr's does not make the lens difference apparent, except for the dof of fast primes.

But I think the overall truth of "not waiting" is more about getting busy and not letting things hold you back.

I think the price of the gh2 will also drop after a few months, I won't buy mine immediately

Just watch out for laser lights display in nightclubs, it'll instantly kill the Mark II 5D's sensor!

2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' "

4 "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. 5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

Will it instantly kill the 5D sensor? Is this personal experience? I've heard of lasers ruining sensors, but haven't had the issue (while using CCD).

Yeah that's really key too... if Panny does the AF100 right THAT will be the camera to get, I would have to believe... sure it's significantly more coin, but it's the all around camera that should last you a few years, like the DVX and HVX... I would hope anyway... and thats what it boils down to. There could be some dude in his basement right now working on a camera that will blow the big guys out of the water, technology is a rip tide now!
