Would like to shoot a snow storm

Hello,

I'd like to shoot a scene with natural falling snow. Unfortunately, the nearest place that gets snow is 2 hours away. Furthermore, I'll have to get cast and crew up there as well, and I'd like to avoid wasting their time.

Is my best option, to check the weather forecast, and hope it's accurate on that day? Furthermore, I was told they tend to close roads when it snows. Any suggestions for those in wintery areas or folks from out of town that have traveled to a snowy area?

Thank you

For a scene, with actors, and crew...your best option is going to be post snow, combined with like soap flakes or something.

Two hours doesn't sound very far?

Where I grew up we had snow 8 months a year. I'm not sure how accurately you can fake that in post, depending of course what kind of snow scene you're after. There's tons of different types of snow.

Here's scene 75 from "MARIANNE", which we shot in -30C in late February for reference if you do decide to fake it in post.

Everything in this scene is real, so it might be good for reference. The snow falling, the sound of the foot steps, the visible breath etc.

...ha, those tough Wikings.

-30C. that's about -22F and that guy runs around in just a shirt with rolled up sleeves - impressing.
