worth upgrading my editing rig?

I use my rig for ae and sony vegas with a lot of HD... I have a core2 e6800 with 4GB DDR2 on XP 64bit. Is it worth going for the 300 dollar Intel I7 cpu with the DDR3 and mobo? 4 core (virtually 8 core) for lil less than 300 is very tempting, especially when i watch it take hours to batch render HD footage.

any advice?

Since it sounds like you might be running windows, you may likely need to re-purchase a license for the O/S (particularly Vista) if you migrate your system. So don't forget to include those types of associated costs in your calculations.
 
yeah, i'm running a clean install of Vista 32bit upgrade version, and i can't register it until i install a full version, so i get popup messages every 1/2 hour....doesnt slow down my work, it's just annoying. i want Mojave ;-)
 
i guess whats stopping me is the fact i have to by a new mobo and there so expensive... wish i could just use the same mobo i have now.
