Worth upgrading from CS2 to CS3?

Hi,

I have the CS2 Production Premium collection..and am using it with Raylight DV...but wonder about upgrading to CS3.

Can anyone comment on how they are finding the CS3 upgrade...has it been worthwhile for you?

Does it make much difference when one can already use MXF files with CS2 via Raylight? Or does the Premiere native import work better?

Will CS3 run any better on a new Quad core system?

Are there any other aspects of the suite that you find particularly better....a new killer feature in AE...inclusion of Sound booth etc?

I am somewhat hesitant to upgrade when it is a significant investment..and in another 12 months or so "Adobe CS4" will be the new "must have" suite...also requiring a $1250 AUD upgrade cost....

Sometimes "skipping" versions seems a little more economical...but the inclusion of this new native MXF support is tempting...

Any thoughts?

In my opinion Cs3 is definitely worth it if your actually working in the industry and can make your money back through your work. AE now has multiprocessor support, and PPRO has some grat ne features. the naitive .mxf is much much faster than raylight, and works great. AE CS3 is also suppose to have naitive .mxf import by years end. really you should just go to adobe.com and read up on all the new and imporrived stuff for yourself and make a fully informed decision based on your own needs, but if its a matter of money its really just a consideration of return on investment if your generating income from it all, or a matter of how much extra money you have for a hobby, if your just dabbling.

Thanks for the feedback..much appreciated.

I use the Adobe Suite as both a hobby but also as a useful tool to aid my work in my school for all manner of projects.

I think it is leaps and bounds beyond CS2.

My hesitancy relates to the fact that I really can already do so much with the suite (in fact a program like After Effects still knows a lot more about me than I know about it!!)

But the native support of MXF is very tempting..as is a potential performance gain with the suite for my new QUad Core system.

I'll certainly upgrade but just wonder whether I get by for a year or so until the next version....

If I knew Adobe wasn't going to upgrade the suite for another 3 years it would be a no brainer...but if we're just talking 12 - 18 months then I might hang on.

$1250 Upgrade cost would also buy a nice new Sennheiser Lapel Mic!

Dercisions...Decisions...thanks!

apart from the MXF which is awesome, multicams no longer require the audio to to be rendered which is great, one thing i will say is the sound booth is rubbish and instead of it audio linking audio to Audition it links to sound booth there is a work around but yeah, that and the fact that the is STILL NOT SUPPORT FOR a OMF or AAF export to sound post in a REAL DAW not even a handle export for Audition which is mad (sorry my rant about audio is over) but yeah you got to get it the AE premeire uplink is fantastic :) do it man oh and you get onlocation and encore free
