Worth the upgrade from HMC150?

I have had my HMC150 for only a few months now and thus far I love it. I use it PRIMARILY for shooting actions sports. I shoot most of my stuff in 720p60 for better slomo with PixelMotion in AfterEffects CS5 which for now works great. Besides that I use it as a B-cam for the AF100 we use to shoot at the production company I work for.

So my question is, do you guys think it would be a worthy upgrade for me to get the HPX170 now? What attracts me to it for the most part, is its ability to shoot 60fps at 1080p rather than the 720p I'm used to now. Besides that, the stuff I'm seeing come out of it looks pretty stellar.

Any information you can throw my way would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sorry to inform you, the HPX-170 doesn't do 1080p @ 60fps. It does do 1080i @ 60fps. it is a great cam, though not as sharp as the newer generation CMOS cams.

From my understanding, the chips in the 150 and 170 are basically the same. What you gain with the 170 is 4:2:2 color space and a better codec. Would definitely come in handy if you did alot of green screen work.

Depending on how much you wanna spend, you might want to wait for the AG160 or HPX250 though.

Yes...also an HMC150 owner who was considering upgrading to the 170 for the colorspace. But I'm going to hang onto it and wait for that HPX250 to come out!

Thank you guys much for the speedy responses! Well appreciated. Also a relief considering my 150 is still pretty new.

all settings (at a glance) being equal on both. i shot a concert with 2 170s and 1 150 a couple months back and. and the 170 was noticeably more contrasty and had better color reproduction
