Worth It To Buy An Unhacked GH1 For $300 Vs $1000 For GH2 ?

The one thing I did that helped confirm, for me, my decision was the right one, for me, was to go out and read the reviews that were written when the GH1 was introduced. These reviews are now at most 24 months old, not from a bazillion years ago. Since those were written, we have learned of the deficiencies and Panasonic has made improvements in their GH2. But when you read the reviews you see the GH1 is no piece of crap !!! In fact the reviews are pretty glowing, most everyone LOVED it. Had the reviews I read been "lukewarm" to "damning", I most likely would have stayed on the path to buy and keep the GH2s.

funny though that it was an rather attempt from Panny's side, while Canon just randomly implemented a video function and the world goes crazy overnight... i guess if Canon comes out with a video cam that has half the content of AF100, it will still sell better. lol

Is the Facebook deal still going on? I just looked at the Panasonic Facebook deals page and I didn't see the GH1 listed. When I followed links to the Club Panasonic site they are listing the GH1 body only for $499.

I just placed an order through the facebook fan page. It's a U.S deal only, so I had to get my friends moms dad as my billing information/ shipping address. Then my friends mom will pick it up on one of her many trips down there. It was such a complicated process and since the camera is back ordered, it's probably going to take a very long time to eventually get to me. I hope it'll be worth it all in the end, seems like a great price.

I ordered it from www2.panasonic.com (this is the website that the facebook group directed me to). Total amount was $380.10, including taxes and shipping. It's back-ordered, though and the website gives me no information as to when it will be shipped.

Hopefully all goes well, thanks for the tip ChipThome.

When I follow the link on Panasonic's Facebook page to www2.panasonic.com the price is $499. Did you ever see $499 or did the price always show as $380?

I must be going to the wrong page. Here is what I did.

1 Went to the Panasonic Facebook page.
2 Clicked on Fan Only Deals on the left side of the page.
3 Scrolled to the bottom of the page to the Club Panasonic Page
4 Clicked on "take a look inside."
5 Clicked on "shop now."

Is this how you got to the page selling the GH1 for $380?

Yes, the price is originally $499, but going through the facebook fan page, it drops the price by $150. So $350 + $2 shipping + taxes = $380

Become a fan of panasonic on facebook >
Click on the "FANS ONLY DEALS" tab on the left side >
Click anyone of the deals to bring you to the www2.panasonic.com website >
Cameras/ Camcorders tab at the top, click "Interchangeable lenses" >
Scroll down to the gh1 model and you should see this:
$499.95 retail price
$150.00 you save
$349.95 your price

If you had to choose between a $300 and a $900 camera I imagine your actual camera is more like a P&S. In your shoes I'd go with the Gh1 and spend the rest on some lenses. If you get results wit the gh1 then consider going with gh2. If you can't get results wit the gh1 then no gh2, gh3 can help you. I had the gh1 and now the gh2. I would not trade my gh2 for 3 gh1's
