Worst Film I've ever seen in my life. Shot on RED.

It's interesting how we've got people who complain that none of the feedback here on DVXuser is worth anything because everyone is always effusive with their praise and won't actually criticize anything, and there's another group of people who object to anyone criticizing anything.

If you're getting nasty to someone personally, like people were (repugnantly so) to Rebecca Black, that's one thing. But this? What are people supposed to do, say it's well-done? It's just plain not, and they put it out there for everyone to see.

Couldn't agree more. Doing something terribly is not deserving of a medal.

I just watched a man pour and drink an orange juice for about a minute and a half. What the hell is wrong with me?

This did not disappoint. Before I opened this thread, I thought this can't be as bad as it is being made out to be. I figured it was probably an overly critical DVXUSER member going overboard.

Nope.

This was bad in a way I can't even really understand without further contemplation on the matter. I mean they had a Red, did 70+ takes on some of the scenes, etc. and it still just... WTF? I have a headache now.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong, but boy I would hate to be the filmmaker and--the next time I google my movie, have to come across this thread. >.<

What a sour day that's going to be. Thankfully no one's gone to personally insulting the filmmakers.

It's extremely hard to make a decent movie... I'm out.

Bad example. That movie looks pro. The script may suck, but it has real actors and good camera work ( well at least decent ).
It's also consistent in its look, framing, lighting, sound, etc. Let's face it, the "Time Machine" film has set the bar too low for other films to compete at that level.

No it didn't. It's on the level of most underground films. Go to an underground festival and check some of those movies out and see the audience reaction.

Yeah, this movie is nothing special in badness. All that remains is for someone to "discover" it and decide and market it for audiences who want to laugh at someone else's failure.

After watching several minutes here and there, it's ripe for MST3000 (if anyone remembers that show?).
It really could be a film-fest to try to overdub the best dialogue.

Unbelievable . . the wait time at the start probably loses 99% of potential viewers.
True. So as one of the 1% I said, "I'll randomly jump ahead and make a decision from there..."

I landed at the scene where a guy is riding a bike- it starts with him fumbling with the pedal, kicking it to get it turned around so he can put his foot on it and ride off...
He finally rides out of frame but the editor hangs on the shot.
Cut to next shot- we wait and wait and wait for him to ride into frame- and this happens several times.
Just waiting for a shot to end and the next one to begin- is someone timing disabled or something?

Then we get to the driveway scene and it's blue- bad WB, bad CC, something. RED? Why, if you're not going to fix it?

i know I could have spent those 2 and a half minutes better doing... just about anything.

Thank god i didn't land on the OJ scene, I probably would've jabbed a fork in my eyes...

And BTW, I've never written anything like this about anything, ever- perhaps it was knowledge of the use of the RED that inspired me to stoop to this level?

I've never been to an underground festival, but I have been to the Full Moon Film Festival in Nashville for 4 years straight, watching my daughter compete. All the films by high school students. i'd say 8 out of 10 were better than this one. That's why I'm inclined to believe they did it on purpose, as a camp fest.

Yes sure, but our first attempt was just that. I dont think anyone here tried making a feature right off the bat. Maybe. Even so, even our worst shorts I think we all acknowledged we were in the learning stages, and still are, and received some good advice along the way. Maybe if the director had stopped by dvxuser and tried a few shorts first in the dvxfest, I think that would have been helpful.

//edit: For example. My first introduction to dvxuser in the filmfest: This is what I learned.

1/ I can't direct.
2/ I can't write.
3/ My sound editing was all over the place.
4/ My visual editing was all over the place.
5/ My VFX wasn't bad.

LOL. And I haven't left since. :)

Yeah, maybe we shouldn't be so critical, especially since we are not going to show our first efforts.

Remember, Vilmos Zsigmond ASC, one of the most influential cinematographers in the history of cinema, shot this:

I'll definitely take your word on this, as I don't think I could sit through a whole festival of this kind of stuff.

There's nothing wrong with the cinematography.

Another thing, this sort of film is the reason you should go to film school.
If you're young, and you have that fear a lot of young inexperienced people have that film school will kill your creativity by brain washing you into conformity - take a good long look at this film. This is why you should go to film school.

The conformity you fear is called craft and technique. It's image composition and story telling structure and if you don't know that stuff the result of your efforts won't be what you want them to be. If you purposely avoid them because you want to go against the current (together with thousands of other people who also purposely go against the current and avoid basic image composition and story structure knowledge) you will end up with something possibly not unlike this.

That's what this is. Forget calling it "bad" just because you don't like it. See it for what it is, it's poor craft.
