South Korean camera accessories manufacturer, Cineroid, is the first to ship an electronic viewfinder attachment for DSLRs, ahead of Zacuto and Redrock.

"It's shipping this month. Any others that have been shown won't be shipping until Spring," said Tony O'Connor, director of Cineroid's exclusive distributor for the UK and Ireland, Octica.

An EVF has been a major request from video users of DSLRs, who want to be able to work in the way they have been used to with traditional camcorders, rather than being forced to be in line with the lens, as they generally are with the camera's LCD or a loupe viewfinder attachment.

The Cineroid EFV-4L includes HDMI loop through, so it can also be used with a separate HDMI monitor for others to view while the DLSR user looks through the viewfinder. The EFV-4L also offers Peaking and Pixel Mapping to make focusing easier, as well as Underscan and audio out via a stereo 3.5mm phono jack or mixed mono via an integral speaker.

The 3.2-inch, 800x400 resolution, wide-angle LCD screen is fitted into a lightweight, compact single unit viewfinder design, and boasts "an intelligent menu" with user settable memory keys. The detachable Loupe also flips up to allow the screen to be used as a monitor.

It is supplied as a kit in a carry bag with an HDMI cable, mini ball head, battery and charger, and can be attached to any shooting set up via a hot shoe or articulated arm, and costs £549.

Octica is also exclusive UK distributor for Chrosziel, Bebob and Protech, and will be introducing other products from Cineroid, including a new wireless follow focus, next year.

the word is out! i am in charge of cineroid distribution in the US. message me with any questions if you are in the USA!

The Redrock IMO is still the only "real" EVF on the horizon. These are more or less small lcd monitors with Z-Finder type eyecups...pass...

Sorry, Why they call HD when its resolution is close to VGA.
For me, HD means minium of resolution .. so
Why it is called HD?
Do you think that is incorrect?

None of the viewfinders under discussion are 1280x720 (the minimum "HD" spec). You'll hear tell of panels that are "1920x480", like on the Sony EX1, but they're bending the truth by reporting the number of "dots", which means they're counting red, green, and blue separately. The true resolution on that is 640x480, but they count the red/green/blue individually, so it becomes 640x3, which is 1920.

So Redrock initially announced something like 1.2m or 1.4m dots of resolution, which they claimed was higher than the Red Bomb EVF. But it isn't. 1.2m dots = 800 x 480. 1.4m dots = 852 x 480. That's just the way it is, that's where the technology is today (and, to Redrock's credit, they have retracted that "higher than the Bomb EVF" claim). Zacuto's EVF is 800x480, I think. The LCD on the 5D/7D/etc is 640x480. The LCD on the AF100 is 640x480, its EVF is 852x480. That's as HD as things get in terms of on-camera viewfinders and LCDs and these little EVF displays, unless you start spending big bucks to get something like the Red finder, which (AFAIK) is an actual 1280x720.

functionally the Af100 can do all the stuff that this monitor can like peaking and Zebra - but.... I did notice a 1:1 pixel function?

I ordered one of these through hotrodcameras.com as a backup for my red evf. I'll let you know how I like it once I get mine!
