working with footage

I was able to get ahold of some HVX footage that I want to try in FCP but i am realizing I have no idea how. The files are .mxf and FCP thinks they are the wrong file type. any pointers for a noob are greatly appreciated.:dankk2:

What version of FCP are you running? I think you will need 5.0.4 to wrap them in a QT format for FCP to read and edit.

That is the version I am running. What am I missing?

FCP can't work with .mxf files - you need to goto File > Import > Panasonic P2, then select the CONTENTS folder of each partition/drive/card.

Have a sniff around the forum if you get into trouble - there's a fair bit of chit chat on importing issues. Everybody stubs their toe the first few times.

I don't have the cards or directories, just a downloaded .mxf file. I'm trying to play with this footage to see if it is a viable solution for our dept. Anymore suggestions would be appreciated.
