Working with eyeglasses

How do I get rid of eyeglass glare when using an off-camera flash?

I read an article that suggested I have people who wear eyeglasses hold their head a bit higher than normal, but I haven't been able to eliminate glare doing this.

I've read that portrait studios have frames only, but because I wear glasses from time to time I know how much of a pain it is to find attractive and complementing frames.

I could have them take their glasses off, but that feels like cheating!

I'm open to shooting tips and post-production software.

Thanks!

You can use a polarizing filter to cut the reflected glare on the glasses. Polarizing filters have a relatively high filter factor and will affect you exposure. If I remember correctly you can loss up to a full 2 stops when using one.

You can also try tilting the glasses down. Move the stems up off the ear to get the glass part to change angles a little bit. This may be just enough to get rid of the glare. This may be noticeable in close shots though.

I wear glasses so I know how you feel. I find the easiest thing to do is make sure you have proper light placement. You just have to watch for the shadow of the frame. I'll apologize in advance that all these examples will be self portraits.

In this one I had a huge softbox very far to the right.

In this one I turned my head away from the light source that was camera left.
