Working on a theme,

I wonder if it's because everything is so accessible now. Back then, you couldn't just buy a cheap computer, record a demo, set up a youtube account, post videos of you and get picked up. Now, tons of musicians get picked up from places like myspace and youtube.

Oh, I thought we were doing the 70's for a sec. So, let me post this then and I'll skidatter...

OK. So, objectively speaking, there's good music and bad music. Some people know the difference and some don't. A lot of people feel that the music to which they listen is good without knowing that, objectively speaking, it is bad. That's not to say, however, that folks who normally listen to good music cannot fall prey to bad music on occasion.

Hawk: your point is logical. I'm just not sure there is more bad music than good being made today.

One more thing: Rush makes bad music.

I miss music, too bad it died...

I couldn't disagree with you more...

On a side note, I've actively tried to stop listening to pop music for the past few years, it's been glorious. I'm proud to say I've never heard a Justin Bieber song

I'm a music junkie

It's not dead.

I do love it all

We're just in the middle of a transition

Like all genre's ...

Rock N Roll, British Invasion, Arena Rock, Disco, Glam, New Wave, Alternative, Metal, Grunge ..... et al *just naming a few)

Not sure what the next major movement will be

but rock and Roll will always reign.

One man's trash is another man's treasure...

Also it's easy to point out the great stuff of the past, and the horrible music of the present while ignoring the music that will survive the times. Miley won't survive, but Muse most likely will.

Dunno about you, but these songs have really stuck with me lately...

Music is alive an kicking. It's just not there in your face with all this re-reproduced garbage on the airwaves. You gotta look, but it's plentiful.

One more thing: Rush makes bad music.

Agreed. I'm Canadian, I wish I could disagree. I do think that Alex Lifeson is a terrific guitar player but as a whole I really dislike their songs. Neil Peart drums like a robot and Geddy Lee's voice and melodic choices are ah... rather annoying. It saddens me when people refer to them as the Canadian Led Zeppelin or Yes. Melodies that follow the root of the chord that closely are really kinda weak and any comparisons between Geddy Lee and Jon Anderson seriously hurts my sensibilities.

Well at least TV is better than ever, so that's something...although maybe I should qualify that with CABLE TV.

For the most part, I agree that things are going downhill. There are a couple of bands that do it for me, though.
