I have followed the workflow threads for a long time and have decided what is the best P2 work flow for me. Shoot 2 4GB cards, offload to my Powerbook, Copy to Firewire Hard Drive enclosure (Get 300 GB Drives, which on long shoots I replace every 3 days), and burn DVDs of each card. I will keep the hard drives around until the project is edited then put them back into circulation. The DVDs will then be my "tape" backup.
This system will be eventually upgraded to 32 GB (or whatever) P2 Cards and Blu-Ray Discs.
Here are the problems:
I tested burning a 4 GB Disc yesterday from my powerbook and it took 17 minutes to burn and 13 minutes to verify.
1.) Is the verify step necessary?
2.) Anyone know how to speed up this process without compromising the data?
3.) Does anyone know how long it takes to burn a Double sided 9 GB disc? I am wondering if these disc would speed up the workflow in the field. However I am worried about the availability of people who can read these discs.
4.) If I ran the hard drive and laptop off a car battery and inverter would the power be too dirty for the hard drive? I run monitors all day off of these batteries and Ive never had a problem.
5.) Anybody have any good ideas for economical, space efficient, yet safe ways to store 30-100 DVDs per project. Perhaps a Hard shell CD case?
