I'm a journalist and often spend between 1 and 3 weeks traveling abroad - usually in fairly remote places. I love the EX-1 (though I wouldn't mind if it were a bit smaller!) and have experimented with different workflows for saving my projects.
Currently, I carry two pocket-sized hard drives. At the end of each day of shooting I plug the SxS card into my laptop and copy the entire BPAV folder into a folder on the hard drive named by date: for example 16Dec08.
Then, I copy it AGAIN to the second hard drive. Both drives are kept in waterproof, airtight pelican cases. So far I haven't lost any data, but I feel like this process is kinda clunky. Also, I only travel with one carry-on bag and no checked luggage, so every ounce I can shave off my pack is greatly felt and appreciated.
I've been contemplating (now that the wonderful MxR solution has arrived!) getting rid of the hard drives in favor of about twenty 16-gig SDHC cards, then just swap cards every day. but I must have a backup also. Can't afford to lose footage.
What do you all think of these: they're 16-gig flash drives, and I can buy them in bulk for about $16 apiece. Seems like an inexpensive solution, but is it at least as reliable as a 5400rpm hard drive?
