I’m using Premiere/Lumetri to color correct/grade Cine4 footage with some LUTs. My workflow is to add an adjustment layer above my video, and apply my LUT in the Creative Section, and afterwards to go back to the Basic Correction Panel to adjust my contrast based on the LUT applied.
1. My thought is that since the Creative LUT is applied after the Basic Corrections Panel, the exposure/contrast is not baked in and I can still make changes in the Basic Corrections Panel. Does this approach sound correct? Are there any issues with doing it this way? Reason why I ask is that everything I read indicates that you should adjust contrast prior to applying the LUT, though this seems to let me apply my Creative LUT and then based on what it does to the footage, I make my changes. Am I missing something here? If I first apply my contrast before applying the LUT, the LUT may add additional contrast to my clip making the shadows too dark, highlights to bright, etc.
Thanks.
