This was shot using my Andromeda DVX100...

Here is a link to a full quality tiff version of that frame:

I'm not posting the clip yet because I have to ADR the audio, hopefully that won't be too hard.....

When its done, it will be a demo where I talk about the cameras tech specs and how they influence the cameras image quality, all the while I'm looking around at the various changes going on, like making the curtains different hues without creating any visible noise, etc... Should be pretty cool :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Thanks, I'm pretty happy I finally found a good way to light a scene like that. It's hard to create that whole light coming from a source within the frame thing. I'll post some more frames.

I tried ADR for audio, yuck, came out terrible. Its a clean recording, but man, it just doesn't look or sound right. Not sure what I'm gonna do, I'm not a sound guy. Might just loop the clip of me sitting down and put a music track down or something.....:undecided

Yea, show more framegrabs! If you have setup pictures or if you could explain what you did with the lighting setup, that'll be great too!

That shot looks great. If you could explain how you did that, that would be great becuase I have a few shots like that for my short.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments! Sorry I've been a little AWAL, I just went full time freelance....lots of work building a crew database. I'm gearing up to shoot 3 promo commercials for some TV shows using the system for a network based in Baltimore :)

Ok well, the lighting is tricky, but what I basically did (sorry, no photos, I should have snapped a few :Drogar-Angry(DBG):) I created this really small diffused light that I aimed at just the far side of my face. I needed it really diffused but small, so I had this big 500 watt scoop light set up with a small piece of diffusion about 4 feet in front of it. I built this flag fortress thing around it to cut light that wasn't being diffused. I then hit a diffused 300 watt light off the ceiling above me, but the trick there is that I setup a really big flag right next to it in order to cut that light from hitting the wall too much. I also put a scrim inside the lamp shade on just my side to cut down on a hot spot that kept forming on my fore head because I was so close to the light. Thats basically it. I lit the scene with a contrast of like 5 stops I think, which is something you can't do very well with DV or DVCPROHD. In post I darkened the image and added contrast. I'm working on uploading a small soundless video clip showing off one of the many looks you can give the shot.

Yea the raw looks milky... thats because of your high master ped right?
Purpose being higher ped=more bit info?

Thats because I expose higher up and there are no adjustments being made at all. So no its not the pedestal. Pedestal is a function you mess around with when color correcting, this camera system lacks built in processors that fiddle with the data, so I do that in post. Basically, when you mess with pedestal settings in camera, its only because the camera manufacturer is trying to give you options since your not recording all the data, so you get a chance to influence how the DSP messes with the image prior to compression.

Good stuff as always Chris...you should be getting a royalty check from the folks at reel stream!

LOL, maybe I should look into that :P I'm really excited about the approaching months, as I have several big shoots coming up using the system. One is a series of commercials, a music video (for a band with distribution through a real label), a spec commercial this week, a pilot show in LA, and the most unusual or at least the most surprising gig of all.... a PBS pilot... never thought I'd find myself doing that! LOL :2vrolijk_08:

Very nice stuff Chris. Congrats on finding all that work, your going to be a busy man it seems.

Thanks! I hope it stays that way. I was originally going to shooting a 19 day feature in Baltimore, but that one feel thru :( oh well, lots of other shoots going on, you just have to know the right people (and lots of them) and be a major cheerleader for yourself.
