I would suggest calming the jump effect down. Got a little car sick from it. I don't know if you are still shooting, or just the editing is left, but if you are still shooting, I'd say have your background people be a little more interesting. The girls at the pool table looked like they hadn't realized the camera was rolling.

I would also suggest calm down that effect like 75% other then that looks good the light skinned girl was sexy.

I got to say, that has to be the first music video I have ever seen of rappin' in the urinal.
Gotta give cred for originality!

The fair skinned broad would be sexy with some clothes on, but on tape that pouch is bothering me. There in lies the problem of shooting a rap video with no budget, the rappers are like...yeah we got girls...and then the girls show up...and its like wtf???!!! Do you jokers even watch videos? Yeah, well why do the girls you brought have pouches, facial hair, hair undone, hair from 1993, clothes from 87, f'ed up chicklets, and sneakers on? I will not do another video where there is no budget for models, flat out hell no. I've got some footage I won't even cut becuase of the crack whore booger bears that showed up under the guise of some jerkoff's modeling team.

One of the best posts I have read. :)

As for the video, cut back on that effect. It really got annoying within the first 5 seconds. Also, some CC may help with the harsh lighting.

As for the bounce... I must admit... I sorta like it. (Ouch)
probably too much and not always precise, but it is a visual hook that makes me remember it.

Gave me an association. Have you seen this?

No real similarities, but this is great:
Sampled images! -;)

Well, in my youth, or a former life, how ever you want to look at it, I shared a house for several years with professional strippers. You're girls did a good job looking like real stripers.

I would tone down the jumping footage a tad, and add a motion blur to that jump.

I'd do a few more cut aways, too. Seems you linger on one shot too long for this specific type of editing. Rap/Rock videos don't focus on one shot too long, as the general audience has a short attention span, due to their youth or just being way too stoned.

But a really nice look! Nice concept, I like it overall. Some tweaking and it'll kill.

Sorry for the rant and 4mat I hope you don't think I was shitting on your work, because i'm not. Just looking at what you had to work with prompts me to remeber my love/hate with rap especially the indie no budget side. I recently had a video shoot where the cats told me they had whips(cars) and I did'nt need to arrange for cars for the shoot. I had booked a nice Benz, a new Range Rover, and a 65 Lincoln black with cream suede interior, all were friends cars so no cost. I said ok fine, i'll use your cars...these jokers show up in a 96 bonneville with 18 inch wheels, and a 1992 mazda 929 with spinners! Spinners in 2006! No budget havin, fake pimp ass....

Thanks for the comments guys I agree with all your comments :)
The shoot was a complete nightmare to be honest, I only had 2 hours to film it and at a location I had never seen before with girls that worked at the strip club. I was getting rushed by the record company to pull the video off inside a week shoot and edit and had zero budget as you can tell.
The girls were real life strippers from a small town, they did everthing for free and I even got the location for free. My thinking was to go ultra realistic and grimey (This tyoe of music is know as grime in the UK).
Will post back the full video as soon as it's ready.

How do you think I should calm down the bounce effect, i'm thinking perhaps just shorten the bounce plus add some motion blur ?

(the bounce if you don't know already is a 2:35 widescreen matte that allows a keyframe adjustment of the vertical trim nromally used to correct headroom etc)

The video looks too clean, you need some kind of post effect for CC and maybe a grittier feel, or a glittzier feel. The images are nicely lit and captured, I just mean that it looks to normal.

Also, the bounce/jump effect is cool. Don't overuse it (so tone it down just a bit). But I think you are using that to cover up a lack of footage.

The main problem with the video is in that whole thing, you have two locations. The first whole section in the urinal is WAY too long, especially for a music video. This is suppossed to be high stimulation eye candy, and it just drags. 5-10 seconds of the urinal scene, and then we're good, got the picture, the idea is old news.

Or, you can have more of the urinal, but you need to cut away to other stuff and then back to him on the urinal, for example, him walking down a hallway, or even different spots of the bathroom or something. I haven't seen the whole video, so maybe it has to be in order, but usually it doesn't matter if its consecutive order or not. Even if it does need to be in order, you need to mix it up and have another scene in there. The only thing covering the lack of changing environment is the jump cuts and the overused bounce effects.

I have some shots of a pole dancer dancing I might try cutting that in a bit but the first time I tryed, it looked cheezy.
Originaly I had planned to shoot 3 different locations to cut together but it never came good. I'm fighting with lack of footage, I did 3 takes of each verse on the song and have had to use all 3 takes no matter if their good or bad just to put some cuts in there.
I'm tempted to shorten the verses a bit but i'll post the full video up soon so we can debate it thurther.
Again thank you for your comments. (the first ever video I made for this artists if anybods interested http://www.steadiforum.com/virus7.mov )

Wow.

Makes me want to run and buy a steadycam rig!
OK
Know that's silly.
I know I won't handle it well just by owning one and that it takes years and...
But, really!

I shot that video after a 3 day tiffen workshop and a weeks solid practice on my own !
Every steadicam operator will tell you it takes years of practice to master, but as you can see reasonable results can be attained in a short while !
I'd say go for it ! but make sure you go to a workshop fisrt or get some pro training of some order.

I agree with the CC comment, this needs some grain and harsh color. The only other comment I have is that yeah, the girls arnt great, but the second rapper is a troll in contrast. I feel your pain on the no budget music video shoots, that is why I stopped shooting music videos about a year ago and just went with features, atleast you know you can adjust to the working conditions on those over a period of time (most of the time).

Well, they say that about everything... (the "years" quote...)
If I was always listening to that, I'd never have work today -;)

No shooting
No editing
No music
No fun

Thanks for the heads up! Think I'll give it a go in March, don't have time untill then.

If I popped over, could I hire you as my teacher? -;)
And would you be interested in working here?
PM me your prices.
(nope. The last part at least isn't a joke.)
