GH2 Work around for 160 Max SS with flash for stills?

I have been using my GH2 for stills more and more and I am getting some really nice results. I am hindered a bit though when I am outside and I need to knock down the light. With no flash I can adjust the Shutter to 4000 if needed. But when I pop on the flash (or wireless transmitter for flash) the highest I can go is 160. I found in the manual where it states this fact, but I haven't found a way around it. There is a setting on my flash (Metz 48-AF1) that seems to bypass this, but when the flash is on the wireless trigger system I am limited to 160 or less (no TTL via wireless). This is in M mode.

Has anyone been able to bypass this? I know I could pick up ND filters but I would love to figure out how to control the settings for certain situations. Especially when I am trying to leave the aperture open.

Thanks in advance for any help.

This is a limitation of the shutter sync, and there's nothing you can do to beat it.

Back in the old 35mm film camera days ( shooting with Olympus OM-1/OM-2 and Nikon F3 cameras), the fastest flash sync speed I could use was 1/60 sec ( Olympus ) or 1/80 sec. ( Nikon )

if your flash can do high speed shutter sync then you need to buy a ttl cable for off camera flash. thats what i use with my oly fl50r. all the wireless modules for pana do not support ttl thats why you cant sync above 160. a quick look at the connectors will show that they are always short of one pin.

@ Mr Fanny-What model cable are you using? I did a brief search at B&H and didn't see any listed as compatible with the GH2.

Pretty much the only thing that bums me out about the GH3 is the sync speed. I know I'm going to struggle with it. I wish PocketWizard would make a HyperSync transmitter for the GH3!
