Word of a new DVX model release at NAB?

For those of you fortunate enough to make it to Vegas (what happens there, stays there) for the NAB convention, and even more fortunate to make it to Panasonic booth...was there any word on a release of a new and improved DVX model in the near future? And how was hooters?

Re: Word of a new DVX model release at NAB?

The DVX100A's only been out for four months, and you're already looking for a replacement? ;D

No, there is no replacement on the horizon. Panasonic's new product announcements centered around their P2 solid-state (memory card) recording cameras for news purposes.

And Canon laid a big egg by introducing nothing.

And JVC introduced nothing, just talked about a potential future maybe camera at $20,000.

And Sony completely failed to introduce anything competitive with the DVX, just showed a mockup of their anticipated HDV camera which is at least a year away.

So, fret not, the DVX100A is undisputed king of the hill, probably for at least the next year.

Hmmm. NAB was not the pit of revelations that everyone was whipping themselves into a frenzy about then!! At least in terms of people proudly claiming that Canon were about to wipe the floor with everyone by announcing some kind of XL2 prototype. ::)

Anyway, to be honest I think I'm gonna be happy sticking with the DVX for quite a while anyway. As far as DV SD goes, it's top in it's prosumer class and with other developers moving to HDV, it might well remain that way indefinitely. I think my next camcorder purchase in a few years time will hopefully be a HD, firewire enabled, solid state camcorder, which may get cheaper and cheaper... it's only a matter of years really.

In the mean time I'll SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT with the DVX!!  ;D

For as far back as I can remember, the "xl2" has been "right on the horizon and will be a breakthrough camera that nobody will ever be able to compete with". Well, at least the last four years. I guess the cannon hopefulls have to have something to look forward to while looking at all of the beautiful footage coming from the dvx forums. ;)

Re: Word of a new DVX model release at NAB?

I have no clue why anyone would jump ship to go to the HDV cams anyways, at least at the moment. Its all compressed to Mpeg 2, I mean me personally dv compression is plenty for me, I don't need to take it another step, and then have to deal with the hassles of editing mpeg footage. The DVX is for me, till I can afford a cinealta that is. (I wish).

Re: Word of a new DVX model release at NAB?

sorry boog...whatever that is. its only a 4K investment, and wanted to make sure there wasn't something up and coming....and the hooters comment, that was a movie quote. Quit taking yourself so seriously,LIGHTEN UP, life is too short.

Re: Word of a new DVX model release at NAB?

Well i suggest you take your time and research through this forum on this very topic and stop cluttering the forum page with new topics that are of no value. Anyone who has done some decent research on their own and common sense will expect there not to be another predecessor to the DVX anytime soon. This topic is as useless as if someone had asked if the DVX had 3 CCDs.

Re: Word of a new DVX model release at NAB?

It seems that people are getting testy about posts in this news sections. I think it is a default section because it is on top. Maybe a section should be called "General Questions" or something, and this one could be news related only.

Oh Kellyboy, the pipe, the pipe is calling... (crackpipe that is) ;D ;)

Re: Word of a new DVX model release at NAB?

Two of the prototype cameras Panasonic had at NAB were the same size as the DVX100. One of them was DVCPro50 and the other was DVCPro50HD. According to the rep, both will shoot in 24p and use the new P2 solid state media which is perfect to get higher end formats into a smaller package.

I don't believe either camera is a direct replacement for the DVX due to cost being much higher on these prototypes and that they'll not be out until almost a year from now.

The Panny rep did mention they're working on a camera to give the JVC and soon to be Sony HDV cams a run for their money though.
