Today is a day of minor celebration for me. :)

A few years ago I was approched by a local high school for some help designing some new facilities for their media program as part of the renovation of the school. The center of this project was a brand new studio for live school-news show production.

Since then I have become a teacher there and also have designed and built/installed the studio and other media areas.

Well today, 3 years later, I hung the greenscreen that I sewed last weekend, and there-for officially completed the project! :cheesy:

I took a batch of quick photos today during class. Nothing specific, just the students (and another teacher) busy trying out the gear. Clikety: http://mikko.n3.net/photos/HamisStudioReady1/

Also, here's a batch of shots from a 3D pre-vis model I did last spring: http://mikko.n3.net/photos/HamisMediaStudio/

...Now off to party!

Some ugly two-coloured mofos... Reporters probably have to speak with their eyes closed so they don't vomit during broadcast :undecided

But, congratulations, nonetheless

...They are old donated poo poo's with dead tape drives.. fine for studio work. (I wish we had a budget)

P.S. wow.. the filter even works on... :-P
(i'm kidding about the filter.. notice this post hasn't been editied..)

Thanks guys!

Yeah I am psyched! :) ..as are the kids.

Pity they are moving the school next year to a different location (I hate bearuocracy) ..but we will get a slightly bigger version of this studio there (that I also get to design...) as they are about to renovate that school too.
...Does it ever end?

it's no wonder the scandinavians are blowin' up in this country w/ teachers like you getting them set-up & all. ( happy to be 1/2 norwegian). : )

sad "politics" exist over there in schools too.

best

My High School's studio has a similar set up. We're also renovating, and we just got a million dollars to build a new studio. :)

ooh.. now i'm jealous!

(we had about 50k for the building work and under 15k for the gear)

Is it just me or does this thread make you wonder, "why in heck did my High School do NONE of this stuff?" I mean, we had NOTHING cool like this. That is great.

Congrats Mikko-

I'll bet being in that environment with interested kids, it must be pretty gratifying.

Rick.
I know how you feel.

When I went to HS (In Alaska) we had 2 EZ20's, a couple of older Hi8 cams, some monitors and a old video mixer.. and a few Hi8 decks.. very little.
There was no video/media course, it was just a after school club, with no school funding.
We would work our butts of taping events to sell copies of on VHS.. and that's how we were able to buy ourselfs operating stuff (like tape!) we had no mula, ever, in the 3 years i did it, as an actual budget. A local middle school I decked out at the same time just went and bought all the gear just like that.
We'd look online at other schools envious of the fact that they had studios and gear (we didn't even have a room more than a large closet for the school info-channel)

I've done enoguh of these things [this was the 5th school studio i've built] that I've (thankfully) learnt how to get something (including money) for these systems.
50grand is nothing when it's part of building a school and it has to include EVERYTHING (from the walls up.. power, AC, lights (jsut teh normal ones) .. everything.. We got lucky with the space and we still realy on a lot of donated and 2nd hand gear.

And what you say about "interested kids" is SO true. ..sometimes i get a totally un-motivated group through the course... breaks my heart to see all thsi gear goign to waste on them.. but then we get the interested ones and it's all good again :)

- Mikko ...was that one interested kid who got hooked.
