SHORT: WOODEN HEART - Short Film (DRAMA)

Hey guys,

Just completed one of my graduate films.

Produced over 4 months, with a 3 day shoot. It's not perfect, but it's probably the first time I'm really proud of something I've made.

We shot it on 2 5D MKIIs and a 7D. Using a series of L-series lenses (24, 24-70, 24-105, 50, 85, 70-200, 135).

It's been screened so far at a couple of festivals in the UK and has been going down really well.

I'd really appreciate it if you could have a look guys and just let me know what you think.

Yes. Heavy duty. Absolutely love the photography in this one... also, your cast really nails the drama. The music is lame and you broke the 180 at one point which bugs a film maker but other than that... stellar. Great work!

Thanks for the response, I agree I think the music is too much in places, but you know what it can be like when you've got the hit the deadline.

Just to check re the 180 rule do you mean in the restaurant?

There were a few things I could quibble on but over all it looked good... with the exception that for this sort of 'intimate' story, I really don't like the 'ultrawide' aspect ratio. I'm not a fan of it in general, so take it at that.

Yes, in the restaurant. With that said, for a school assignment, this is really really good! If you can replace the music and edit down some of the line-flop cuts in the restaurant, I'd say you have a festival piece. Again, I love the photography and I love your cast... they definitely convince me of their plight.

But again... replace the music. ;)

Haha, cheers mate. Became so intense on that shoot that my DPs let there eye slip, and I was too busy working with my cast and didn't notice until the edit. Fortunately no one has said anything at any screenings!

Thanks for the feedback man, I've often found it's really a matter of taste. I just think in a cinema environment that I'd never want to project a film with a 1.85:1 ratio.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the music ;)

wow. this was excellently done. Beautiful photography as well. Great work.

Thanks a lot man!
