Won't recognize EDL... completely. Help.

Ok, I am trying to see if I can switch from FCP to Vegas, and I need some help.

I have been playing around with a "trial" version of Vegas 6 and I love it. However, it is completely worthless unless I can get it to recognize an EDL from FCP. Here's what I've got so far:

I exported the EDL and assets from FCP and put it on the PC. I opened the EDL in Vegas and it recognized the "in and out points", as well as found all the media and put them in my "Project Media" folder or tab or whatever it's called. The problem is, it won't connect them up. I have what looks like, blank audio and video clips in the timeline that match the length they need to be. Plus, the assests in the "Project Media" folder are all complete, and previewing.

How can I get them to connect? I talked to Automatic Duck, and they said they tried to export an AAF using their software and import into Vegas and it failed. So that rules that one out too.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Wes (Duck) isn't getting it to connect? I thought they had that worked out. Vegas to FCP, no prob. Haven't tried going the other way, I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
You're exporting as AAF, right? have you tried CMX/txt yet?

Wes sent me an email, here is the message:

"We do have AAF Edit Protocol export in the latest Pro Export FCP plug-in,
however since so few shipping products import Edit Protocol AAF files, it
isn't as fully tested and fleshed out. We've long wanted to create a Vegas
import plugin, but we've not yet and even if we did that would be some ways
out. I just tried a sequence from FCP to Vegas 6.0d via AAF and it failed."

Let me know what you can do, Douglas. Thanks.

BTW, UTAH RULES! Had to do it.

Try redigitizing the your raw video footage into your hard drive and see if vegas can pick it up that way instead of the assets from FCP as a source. Without a reference point for vegas to grab the footage..it could be just be in and out points.

If you right-click any of the events on the timeline and choose "Properties", what does it say under the Media tab? Is a file associated with the event?

Are the events on the timeline offline? If so, you should get an alert when you open the project again, to reconnect the media to the events on the timeline. Does this happen?
