Wonder what the next fest will be...

I mentioned HeistFest myself, I would love to do that one. PeriodFest would be cool. Different from HistoryFest in that I suppose you could also use the future. What's neat about ideas like these is that you have the potential of such a wide variety of different plot lines that I think it would be hard to get bored while watching them. Good ideas!

HeistFest
PeriodFest: Any time but the present
SilentFest

HeistFest? I don't know if I could pull that one off.
PeriodFest? I'll have that entry ready in 28 days.
SilentFest? No comment.

Actually I think HeistFest has some possibility. I think "tribute-fest" may be an OK idea... if left open to interpretation. I also thought that having some odd-ball requirements might be fun... like you have to feature a camera, but between 2:50 and 2:59 or something. It would be fun to have a requirement or two which HAD to happen at some particular time... because then watching the entries would be potentially funny or interesting based on KNOWING that the requirement was "due" and how are they going to work it in? I can see that adding a new dimension to the requirement thing.

"But Betty I love you... I LOVE you! If I didn't would I have bought you THIS CAMERA?"

I LIKE IT! That would be tons of fun, I would love to see how each person worked it in with that added requirement. Very good idea.

I personally think "odd-ball" requirements are cool, it's fun for 1) Me as the filmmaker; trying to figure out a creative way of pulling it off and 2) Me as the view; trying to see what other creative things people came up with.

:grin::thumbsup:

I also like the time requirement thing. It could potentially be incredibly difficult so maybe I don't like it very much. If could mess up the editing process and potentially make the overall film worse.

You edited your post drew because of spelling, yet got another mistake :) Lol.

I like Hatefest or Issuefest or Argumentfest

uh oh its robbie the spelling police! Shouldnt you be worrying about your comotography and not Drew's spelling? :)

Argument fest sounds kinda interesting...

History fest -- More money than most of us have.

Not true! The DVXUsers in rural areas could do westerns, medieval, etc. Those in urban environments could make a trip to the used store, grab some $5 suits and do 1940s gangster, or 1950s LA Confidential stuff, etc. Do you have to be creative? Yes! But not necessarily expensive.

I'm with Kholi. It doesn't get much more prohibitive for a low budget than "period piece." Even if you can scrounge up a few costumes, it's almost always going to look really, really bad.

Plus, and maybe this is just me, but digital cameras, no matter how good, just never look quite right for period films.

I have to agree. My films are usually very low budget, but I think I could still pull off a decent period piece. I can see how trying to pull off a midevil cannon fight on top of some big castle might be tough, but if you can't afford one thing, choose something more affordable, like a 40s Gangster Piece or something.

I still like HiestFest, though. Oh, and don't forget Noir!

Earlier in the thread there was some talk of Themes instead of Genres - but it seems like most of the suggestions being thrown out now are either Genre or Styles again. I'm just curious - if there were another 'theme' fest...what themes would people like to explore?
